I spent alot of time talking with Vadim about cams torque curves, and displacement. One of the things that Vadim found out between the stage 1 and stage 2 cammed cars is that although the stage 2 cams had more peak hp over the stage 1 equipped car, the stage 1 car would beat the stage 2 car in a drag race. Where the stage 2 cammed car shine was on the road course where the engine could be kept in its narrower power band. This is reason I used to get Stage 1 cams instead of Stage 2, +20 or +40 cams. I wanted to maximize the area under the torque curve. When I start my 3.6l stroker motor I may go a stage 2 cams to take advantage of the greater displacement.

Ernie - Let me know when you are headed to the dyno again. I've still got friends out in SLC and I'd love to come out and check out the car.

Chris (previously with the white 92, I met you at Modern Garage a few years ago)

I've got the clutch and a quaifed trans in and what a differance that clutch makes.

We're taking the car to the dyno to tune on April 28th, Lance Chaney and Ransom (sho_sc) will be in to do the tuning.

I'm also thinking I might put on a Zex kit I bought and do a seperate tune for it.

jay, you are new here, we understand, but you keep posting about your dyno in EVERY thread on the forum, that is unacceptable. Please only post things that pertain to the thread at hand.

I read almost every post awhile back and just now got around to responding. Very nice job on the setup and run. Would love to see that beast run something down on the street.

:salute:

This past weekend I had the opportunity to drive this SHO on the dyno and I can tell you that it is a monster. I have never driven a 3.0L N/A SHO that pulled that hard and that fast. Without knowing, I would have thought I was driving a low boost 3.0L blower SHO. The power curve is very unique; at around 3.5K the engine really wakes up and starts pulling uncommonly hard. You have to remember that nearly everything has been to done to the engine to lighten the rotating assembly and to get it to breathe well at high RPMs. Plus a few “tricks” that has been thrown in the mix.

Now unfortunately, a rod decided to come out and visit us that day. It seems that a rod bolt nut work loose causing undue stress on the other rod bolt, which sheared in half...carnage soon followed. Oddly, the engine idled after venting the crankcase. We were unable to get any useable numbers because we were still in the tuning mode and only running the engine up to 7K RPM. But knowning Ernie, a new motor is in the works .... with even more tricks...

:(. Ernie talked to me about this, the tone of his voice was like he had lost a member of his family. But he said it'll be ready for Bonneville! He was also telling me with the timing backed all the way off, and just messing with the a:f, the thing was putting down ~240wtq.

I'm not positive if it was wtg or hp or if I was even looking at the right thing but it was uncorrected numbers. What ever the numbers were, it was sounding great.

Was that with a nitrous shot? If not , do you think it can be because of a bad A/F ratio?

So has anyone else built a 300hp n/a sho motor? All it would take is this right?

cams $700
pistions $700
throttle body $100
maf $25
exhaust $500
intake manifold $500
udps $125
bigger valves ?

head work

so about $3000

this is just bolt ons , he has engine work and de-stroking.

Im guessing you need to double-to-triple that number to achieve this. And thats only in parts.
