Somebody had asked me a while back for some pictures of my two-tone interior. Well it was nice outside so I got the 95 out of the garage and took it for a spin and took some pics.

It's ok, but I would rather have it all black. The only reason I did this is because I got a deal on a new factory replacement black leather interior.

I would like to have all black door panels but I don't think it would look right with the door closed against the dash. I am thinking about putting in an all black center console and maybe the making the passenger side airbag section all black, not sure.

So, what do you think?

It doesn't look bad, just not for me.

The interior is clean though, I love that!

I was expecting to see something like this.

I know you got a deal on those, but i would try to make the rest of the interior all black.

Will, I think it looks pretty good. The only things I would change is to dye the seat trim black, put the mocha mats back in or get a black carpet, put the mocha rear door ash trays back in and dye the "leather" insert in each of the doors black. I'd leave everything else and not add anything else either. If I had the cash that is exactly what I would do, I like the black seats and other black trim in the mocha interior. I'd also get the FR500 steering wheel and do the airbag in black to match, along with the column shroud. Looks great. thumb

I still want to change the door inserts and the carpet part on the doors to black plus maybe the center console and the seat bottoms...blah, blah, blah. The more I change the more I am basically working my way towards an all black interior, which is what I want anyhow. So I imagine I will work my way towards the all black interior and bite the bullet and take the dash apart someday. I do not look forward to taking that dash out. throwup

Anybody take the dash out? What kinda time are we talking about?

I agree with the passenger side airbag black... but I would also go with the steering wheel airbag black too.

Can you mix the colors of leather on the seats? like, make the middle of the seats mocha? Probobly would be hard, but could possibly be done by sewing on-top of the existing seat.

Let me put it this way: I'd rather do the clutch job again than pull the dash out again. The dash took me probably 4 hours to remove. Not a pleasant experience.

Instead of removing the dash, you can dye it still in the car. Remove all the panels and vents from it and mask the windshield and surrounding areas. The VHT Vinyl Dye works very well. Ian(ManySHOs) dyed a lot of the pieces in his interior black, including the dash board. They came out very well, and the dye is very durable since it is soaked into the vinyl and not just an added coat like paint would be.

Don't feel bad my interior is only halfway swapped at this point also. I tried to make a halfway-theme with it till now, until it gets done (if it gets done)

I also changed certain parts other parts not pictured to make it match more for now.

I wonder what it would look like if I left the dash and headliner tan but changed everything else to black? Doesn't VW do that sort of thing? I might try some of the spray dye.

If you looking for complete black interor.....you can PM me. naughty

But I do like that. It gives it contrast. Black on mocha especially with the black in the door panels makes it come out.

If your going to keep it 2 tone don't just go dying this and that (or whatever you can unbolt), you want it to blend and look natual. Go with somthing like this: black from the crease in the upper section of the door panels down and mocha on top with either a mocha carpet or a black carpet. Continue with the black on the lower section of the dash and the console top. Change the seat trim to black and change the ashtray back to mocha. Get a cheap door panel off or ebay or a junk yard and try a few things out first if you think you might not like it.

Ok. So seat trim to black and put the mocha ashtrays in the rear doors back.

"How hard was it to change the leather"?

Was not easy. You have to disassemble the front seats. Meaning, unbolt the back from the bottom. It's not a real complicated job, it just takes time and patience. I cut the old leather off the front seats making it easier to remove. The are a lot of hog rings and you need to figure out what tools to use or get a set of hog ring plyers. The back seat is not as bad but it has a plethora of hog rings.

how much does new leather skins cost for front and rear seats? I recently acquired by brothers 95 ATX, and the sun roof had been stuck open in it for a good 8 months in the spring oh ...in iowa...snow, rain, sun, rain, sun, snow, sun, etc... and now the leather is ruined, and quite frankly, looks like shit. headbang I want to get it fixed, and not just with cheap *** seat covers.

any thoughts?

I like the black with mocha idea, but no offense, it looks like you just plopped those black seat in and left it.

What I would like to see is: lose the black floormats and get the mocha ones, get a black top for the dash (or at least the glovebox and driver's side knee gaurd), and re-cover the seats with black fronts and black bottoms with the mocha plastic base and put mocha leather on the rears of the seats.

OR, get an ALL BLACK carpet with black floormats. Keep the seats all black with the mocha plastic bases. Keep the only black accents on the doors as they are right now and keep the dash all mocha with those few black accents. Also, get a mocha center armrest piece. This way, you have an equal balance of mocha and black...black seats and carpet in a mocha interior with black accents.

The problem I have with it is that the accents are kind of spastic and all over.

But I REALLY like the mocha and black thing...like a beige Porsche interior!

Keep up the good work and post new pics if you decide to do any of this. thumb
