This has happend three times so far.. and the only thing I can relate to it is the car leaning forward (ie coasting down hill out of gear or hard braking)

the engine just dies.. and I have to turn the key to start it up... and it will start fine.. this happens witha full tank of gas too so it is not the fuel going away from the pump

any ideas?

there was a recall on the gas tanks. what happens is when ford welded the tank i guess weld spatter littered the tank.one of my manuals say this will cause the engine to stall out at running temp on warm days. as of right now this is my problem.its almost like i run out of gas. i wait 10 to 15 minutes and she start right up. also feel a lack of power. Maybe your having the same problem.

If it restarts each time, that makes it a little harder to diagnose. When the engine cuts out, does the tachometer drop to zero even though the engine is still rotating? That would point to the CPS. You could confirm that by checking the codes. You would expect to get the secondary fuel pump circuit failure since your engine has stalled, but you may also get the code 14 that points ot the CPS.

Another possibility is that IAC valve is not properly controlling the idle speed as you take the engine out of gear. Have you disconnected the battery lately? You would then just need to reset the idle programming. Search on those words for the procedure that has been repeatedly posted.

Your fuel pump may be the problem. I chased mine for 3 years before I figured it out. After the pump heats up it binds up and quits after it cooled down it would drive judt fine. Hot weather, fuel level and driving distance played a big role in when it would do it. As the pump heated up the armature would freeze. It is vary hard to diagnos but if it does it and you can take a fuel pressure reading while its doing it then you'll know.
