hi guys,
i have a problem with my 1992 MTX SHO. last week I tuned up the engine. I replaced spurk plugs with bosch platinum +2 heads, a pair of motorcraft used spurk plug wires from my 1993 SHO oil +oil filter, air filter and fule filter. before i did the tune up the car felt so strong and when the secondaries kickers kicked in you really heard the noise what they sound like. But :( Now when i run the engine up to 5000 rpm in first gear i dont really hear the secondaries kickers noise at all in 2nd gear just a little ( not like it use to before I tuned the engine up), and so it does in every gear. It's really loss and weak on power. could anyone help and tell me what to do .. please??? , all replys are appreciated.
thanks

Alright, I'm no mechanic, but I do know one thing. After you do any sort of mod...or even tune up like you did, aren't you supposed to drive the car around like 1k miles or so before you break it in and feel the change? What are you doing putting bosch spark plugs on your SHO? Bosch are for BMW's and such, not fords. Don't get taken away with all these platinum tips and stronger spark, it's better to use the motorcraft spark plugs on your sho, especially if it's stock. Just my 2 cents, but I would replace those bosch spark plugs with some genuine motorcraft stuff. Hope your car gets better...what kind of oil filter did you use...and what kind of oil? Probably won't affect your performance as much as the spark plugs would, but just wondering. Have you done your 60k yet? one last question...how many miles does your SHO have? And I probably should've been done with this reply already, but maybe you did something to your car when you tuned it up??? Ideas just popped into my head as I was writing this...

hi man,
well the oil i used was same as always 5W-30 all climate control recomended and Fram oil filter. My 1992 MTX SHO has 80K on the clock and my 93 ATX SHO has 85K . None of those has gotten the 60K service. now what i would do is that i will go back with motorcraft plugs as you are recomneding me on my 92 mtx sho. i will let you know how that turns out.

thanks for your reply.

are your secondaries opening properly at just under 4K? check for vaccum lines that may have been pulled off when the intake was off. check to see if you have any vaccum lines pinched somewhere under the intake. that may sound stupid but it happened to me when i was hurrying, my seconaries opened on one side and after lookin further into it i ended up pinching a vaccum line so it wouldnt snap open.

good luck

Hondakiller is on the right track.

Bet you a buck that there is something left disconnected on the secondaries circuit.

Check the electrical connection for the solenoid and the vacuum lines from the intake manifold to the accumulator to the solenoid to the secondary vacuum motors.

This thread Secondaries and IMRC on ATX has photos and links to help you check it out. sdpatt has also provided a description of the vacuum lines from the IMRC solenoid to the secondary motors as follows: "The routing of the secondary butterfly vacuum lines is from the center tap on the intake's rear plenum to the front (forward) tap of the black plastic accumulator tank. From the rear tap of the accumulator to the bottom tap of the solenoid. From the top tap on the solenoid to the "T" fitting under the idle air control valve. From the side post of the "T" to the rear bank secondary vacuum diaphragm valve and from the front post on the "T" to the front bank diaphragm valve."

Been there, done that when I first pulled mine apart for a heater core replacement.

im with Steve, check the secondaries electrical connection. if there was a vacuum leak, youd know it (PSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS).

Isaac, i ran Bosch Plats in my 1994 FORD Ranger for 100K miles and never had any problems with them. ran the Bosch Plats in the SHO, they didnt last 10K. im running Motorcrafts now, but 10K miles later, i seen to have burned through them as well. and no, you dont have to drive ANY vehicle 1K miles after you put in a new air filter to "break it in". anytime you do serious modifications (changing MAFs, MAS, LPM), a computer reset is in order.

okie dokie... just heard that somewhere though, that like if you put anything big i should say...like a supercharger or something, you should probably break it in. But anyways, thanks for the insight, laters

You only need to break in new clutches, new motors and new girlfriends to make sure they run right.

What? Whada I say?!

It won't solve your current problem, but I suggest ditching that Fram oil filter and using the Motorcraft 400s.

The Fram oil filter has absolutely nothing to do with the current problem.

The odds of it causing any future problem are miniscule.
