Damn fellas, I just got the 60k service done on my 1994 ATX SHO (88k miles). I did the 60k because I had a leaky water pump that leaked onto the crank sensor. My car still dies for no reason while just idling at a stop light. It still tries to fight it but eventually gives up. And again the longer I leave it to sit the better chance it has of driving long enough to make it home. Could this be a bad fuel pump? Please help me. I just spent about 1 grand on the parts and labor for the 60k and my SHO (when it runs) runs smoother and faster than ever. One thing to *note* I hear a whistling sound when I press the accelerator most of the time. When I release the gas peddle the whistling seems to stop.

Thanks,

Danny

has the fuel filter ever been changed if not it could be bad. Or it might be the fuel pump or fuel sending unit.

Fuel filter was replaced during the 60k.

Check all of the vacuum lines, sounds like the "whistling" could be from something that is disconnected. Overlooked vacuum lines are not uncommon after major engine work.

Please excuse my ignorance, but what is the IAB?

Also, my car has been dying like this for "no" apparent reason for the last four years on and off. So the 60k had nothing to do with it. What are vaccuum lines and how do I check those?

When I posted a thread last week everyone here seemed to agree that it was a leaky water pump causing the CPS to fail. Well, obviously that want't right. My initial thoughts were of bad fuel pump because it just seems as though the car quits getting fuel. The radio, A/C, & lights all work. But the power steering, gas, and eventually the breaks go out. The longer I let the car sit the longer it will run without dying again!

PLEASE HELP ME!

Thanks

Ok, I don't want to pay the expensive factory Ford fuel pump price. What are the better and also the cheaper ones for my 94 ATX SHO available at either O'Reilly's or Autozone?

Thanks

I bought my first SHO used (20K) and it died on the way home from the dealer... similar symptoms to your problem. The dealer found a FSB related to fuel pump problems and they replaced it for free (years ago). Never had that problem again after that.

Where could I find out about that on the net? Also, think Ford may still be required to fix it? The damn thing dying and having the power steering go out seems like a safety hazard to me!

Any car needs 2 things to run, spark and fuel. Put a timing light on it and see if it is getting spark at the right time, and get a fuel pressure gauge. Fuel should be about 35 psi at idle, 40 above idle. There is a box near the top of the radiator that controls power to the fuel pump, called Constant Control Relay Module. They do fail. the usual symptom is no fuel pressure. On the wire harness to that box, pin 5,,pink with black stripe wire is the power going to the fuel pump. Also, the pump will not run unless the circuit is grounded, the ground wire is under the carpet near the fuel/trunk release. It's secured to the floor by a green screw. If that is loose or corroded, no ground, so no place for the power to go, so no fuel pump. Hope this gets you started in the right direction.

I had a '92 MTX before my '93 ATX and as far as I know it had the 60K service done and mine also did as you says yours does. I never figured it out and sold it. pjtoledo had a good suggestion. Good Luck, hope you figure it out!

MAF problems caused mine to do what you are describing. First a dirty one then a bad leak after the maf and before the throttle body. I could keep the car revved up and it would be fine but if i let it try to idle it would hunt for idle for about 1 minutes then sputter and die.
