Man those times are awesome! The more I look at the gen III, the more I like them..not that I ever disliked them. I should spend more time reading over here, you guys have some really nice cars.

How are you driving the car down the track?

I mean, how are you launching the car, going through the gears, just stomping on the gas...etc...

those times seem very good, I've only been able to get to a 15.83 at 87 mph...

This is on a bone stock car, though after the intake and muffs, they got worse., up to a 15.91! All I do is mash on the pedal, OD on, all the way down to the end. I know my car isn't running improperly, it's been looked over and only has 39K miles on it.

I have yet to run it with the open cone. and those runs were done at a track with ambient temperatures around 90 degrees. Also, the car still had everything in it, and was at normal temps, no icing of the intake or anything.

So what's your secret? I can't imagine that all those things I mentioned are sucking 7-9 tenths of a second off my time....

Thanks in advance for the info.

I don't think I did anything special, since I am not really into this. I gave mine a slight roll at partial throttle to get her going and be sure I did not overrun the light and then just floored it. Did not use the shifter at all, just let it do its own thing. Seemed to work fine.

Launching this car is little art form that takes time. Start here Stage with the O/D off and brake stand you motor to about 2000 grand on tach. Light drop and let here rip stay in it.

Heres the key, where is you car shifting at in WOT between gears????

Get back to me I will explain in a later post.

Those above times are good but I have not seen but one stock SHO run those time swith that MPH at the end most Gen III's run in between 87-89 depending on how many mods. Now I not saying it isnt possible but they must have got the Wednesday built 3.4 L engins

After all I saw his time slips.

To give you an idea I ran 15.7 first run then progress down to my current best ET 15.5. I have K&N panel, muffler (ultra flow design, and a cooling fan override switch, SARC (Which I run at the track off). I know my car capable to go quicker but track conditions play large role in those time.

I love to drag race, but the SHO isnt built for it but its still fun to try.

I think Ron Porter is running in the 14.8 range all the time and his only mods are an open cold air intake, a K&N panel and a UDP. I think those are his mods. Certainly the first two. I do not remember for sure about the UDP.

There does seem to be a reasonable range of results. A lot could be contributing to that. Track conditions, ambient air temp, tires on particular cars, obviously the driver, and some SHOs do just seem to be faster than others out of the box.

He said he ran that once on very good day. Which is possible, **** I made an Stock 99 GT run 13.8 on street tires on a good day. Thats quicker than 90% of the people that drive those cars could do. I was beating people that modified theres. What I saying thats dam good for an Gen III when most on the average run 15.5 depending upon the vaiables that exist in drag racing.

I went to the track last Wednesday Night.

The temp was 65 degrees, the elevation is about 1300 feet above sea level ( SpeedWorld in Surprise, AZ )

My first run, which was about a 1/2 hour after the 75 mile drive to the track, was crappy.

1) R/T .520
2) 60 ft. 2.424
3) 1000 ft. 6.764
4) 1/8 mi 10.310 @ 70.324 mph
5) 1/4 mile 15.932 @ 87.280

next run, about 1 hour later ( iced the intake to cool the car down, which was kinda warm, I thought )

1) .576
2) 2.410
3) 6.705
4) 10.209 @ 71.075
5) 15.784 @ 87.871 mph

3rd run, this time, I blasted the heat on to 90 and kept it there until I was up to run, this kept the car nice and cool ( the intake was warm to the touch from this run up through the next two, until I just ran it normally )

1) .386 ( red light, DOH! )
2) 2.347
3) 6.581
4) 10.050 @ 71.830
5) 15.56 @ 88.951

Best run of the night, I'm a little more happy now...

4th run

1) .580
2) 2.373
3) 6.612
4) 10.084 @ 71.749
5) 15.607 @ 88.885 mph

This was the run where I was up against a new 2 dr GTP that pulled a 15.153 @ 91.6 mph.

Pesky little bastage, wait until I get forced induction!!!!!

5th and final run

1) .876
2) 2.434
3) 6.718
4) 10.222 @ 71.144
5) 15.777 @ 88.386

I can't get to that 15.1 that you did, but this was with my car at regular pressure, regular gas, regular equipment in the vehicle, seats, spare and my fat a$$.

So it seems that a cool SHO is a faster SHO. GTP's are quicker than us, and it took me half the track to pull on a 2001 F-150 SuperCrew Harley Davidson Edition with exhaust work, Diablo chip and open cone filter.

I also learned that Speedworld is one cool track, for all you, AZ SHo owners out there to enjoy.

There is no doubt in my mind that a cool engine sucking in cool air and doing it at as close to sea level as possible, will produce a faster result. All other things equal, obviously.
