I went to the track 2 weeks ago for my first time. temp was around 60 all day and it was partly cloudy. My R/T's were horrible for all three of my runs, which I expected. My 1st run I had tire spin right through 1st gear and halfway through 2nd and then she bogged on me. I ended up with a 16.6 @90mph. With the 90mph I knew I was headed for faster times. 2nd run I lowered my tire pressure from around 34psi to about 24psi. This run had little sire spin through only first and no bogging and I ended up with a 15.1@90. my 3rd and final run was about the same 15.2@90. I posted my timeslips on my picture page. Whats everyone think about my 15.1....Im thinking that when I get the underdrive pulley i should be able to break int the 14's.

Yeah those are some really good times, especially for how few Mods you have. I hope I can pull those times in my soon-to-be Gen III. There ain't nothing like the power of the 8!

Don't have a SHO yet, but i'm already laying rubber in a Buick with at least half the horses and torque, so i'm ready to SHO those sports cars I can take them on and take home the bacon. ;)

Yeah the tint will help get you pulled over in PA. The state troopers ripped my front tint off of mine. I have not been to the track with mine yet but I am getting ready for keystone next year and see the v8 can do. I do plan on having my zex nitrous kit and exhaust cutout by next spring.

Same here. It was a PA state trooper and the cop actually ripped the tint on the two front windows so I had to take it off. He did not give me a fine though. I have gotten three fines from local cops for the glazing on the front windows so I just did not get the front done again yet. To much hassle but i d miss the tint on the front. I am thinking about going with the tint that fades from silver to limo as I have a silver SHO.

Holy crap that is good. I hope I can pull off something like that....but it appears I have developed a little bit of a problem with my car....explained in different post.

i just have a drop up front. About 5inches or so. Looks good. The state trooper that pulled me over said the front windsheild drop was alright but he certainly didnt like the front side tint. But he didnt rip it or anything he just gave me a slip which I had to return to the police barrecks. no fine. I didnt mind too much cause now I dont have to worry bout it. It still looks good even with no tint up front.

I only took mine to the track once and got pretty similar numbers. Something like 15.17 @ 92.3 mph or there abouts. I do not remember exactly, though I have the yellow slip around here somewhere. It was last spring. It does seem that most of the Gen IIIs end up in the low 15s and a bit over 90.

Are you sure about the trap speed on the 16 second run? That seems awfully high. My 16 second tire smoking runs had traps of about 87 mph and my fastest time is 15.321 @ 90.525. I've got one run of 18.352 @ 84.264 too. I completely smoked the tires that run.
Most of my runs were completely stock except for the K&N panel and I removed the seats, spare and jack (about 150 lbs total). I figure removing the weight gave me a about a tenth or two off my times. I bet you'd be into the 14's if you remove them. It's not hard to do.

His speeds are well within the normal range that I have seen over a long period of time on the V8SHO mailing list. Yours are toward the bottom of the normal range, with that one in the 18 second area way outside. Sounds to me like tire selection might be holding you back. From what little I understand of this, smoking tire runs are not the way to get the best times for this car.

Actually my tires are pretty good. Cooper Cobra GTZ's. The traction rating is 300 and there almost worn out after 8.5 months and 23,000 km.

My 18 second run was done after a 12 second Nova left a pile of rubber in my lane and all of my 16 second runs were due to poor track conditions.

And I think that my times are about average for a third gen or gen II auto considering that I'm pretty much stock. I think with a UDP and a less restrictive exhaust I'll be seeing the 14.9's in the cold weather.
