I actually can't remember in which thread this came up, but I contacted Multimatic about how they had their Firehawk championship winning SHO setup. This is the response I got:

Eric,

Sorry for the delay on this but we had to go through some old set-up notes to get the information requested.

Front Spring - 350lb
Rear Spring - 400lb
Ride heights are in the 4" to 5.5" in the rear.
Rear Bar - I don't know the rate but the bar is made of 38mm OD with a wall thickness of 0.330". Lever arm length is 6" from the center of the tube to the middle hole of 3 for adjustability.
Front bar - production SHO.

Struts - we used off the shelf Koni adjustable inserts installed in adjustable spring tubes. Bushings are production as per the rules of that time.

Anything else...let me know please.

thanks,
Sean

Pretty interesting, I think, and not what I'd expected. Big friggin' rear bar, too.

I suspect some of the reason for the rear stiffness was that they were running an open diff...this was pre-Quaife era.

Interesting. But where did they get those spring rates? They mention the Konis, but no mention of coilovers, perhaps they developed thier own?

Eric, reply and tell them they should bring one [both] of those to the convention :naughty: I wanna ride.

Don't most SHO people typically have a much higher spring rate in the front?

What does the "ride height" mean?

Don't forget that they were using a hollow rear bar which will not be the same stiffness as one that is solid of the same diameter.

You'd really need to compare the spring rate of their rear bar to that of the 26mm solid rear factory bar.

They said they were using adjustable strut housings, I wonder if they mean they added a coilover colar like the IPT kit uses, therefore using the small diameter wind coilover spings. OR if they made the housing adjustable in regards to the knuckle and had stock looking linear custom rate springs made.

Interesting email Eric, they didn't really uncover any hidden mystery's that we didn't already know. Coilover SHO's even use similar spring rates.
