So, due to some mtx failure, I did some checking and well, there was not fluid? duh huh. Well, I have taken the tranny apart, and the IMPUT SHAFT BEARING was, well melted and apart. My question is, does anybody know were to get one of these. The bearing and the cup. Ive tried like 10 places and even ford dealerships. Obsolete, they tell me, but i am not about to scrap my car because of a $10 bearing. What do I do, I know I am not the only who had this problem, Please help.

None are available, they have been obsolete for a few years now.Do a search, you`ll see others have the same problem.Your best bet is to start looking for a used one.

I can sum it up with one word, DAMN. I looked in my SHO bible, and have what seems to be every part # but that one. As for the used one, well let me know, if there are any spares out there.

Apparantly a few more MTX bearings are now obsolete from Ford. To my knowledge, most are available through timken, etc, but there is/are 1 or a couple of Ford only ones.

If you ran the thing dry of fluid, chances are more than just that bearing are toast. Might be a good idea to find a good used box...

That's what I was thinking. If you do have to get another used tranny, save the old one. I know those boosted people are always looking for stuff like 3rd gear that they tend to break.

there is one good part, thats the only thing that went, I drove it up to WI (different car of course) and had my pops look at it, (he works at ford place) also the tranny people, who also own SHO's there said it was fine except for the bearing. Also he is lookin for that bearing for me, no dice, somebody that makes bearings, must have one, or one for a different application that fits, or something. Im not giving up.

Try taking the bearing to a industrial supply store. They can get a lot of different bearings. Do you have any accurate measuring tools? Like micrometers? Or calipers?

They wont make one but I am sure they can find something out there in a NTN, Timken, *** or SKF there has to be something out there that will fit. They may have to order is specal but you should get it. Is there any numbers or manufacture name on the bearing??? or both? Your best off is to bring the bearing along with you if ya find someone that knows what they are doing you will be in luck

Oh I see there should be some numbers on the outer ring of the cup. Get the shaft size and they should be able to get a bearing to match the cup.

Bearings distributers have access to literally thousands of bearings. I'm sure that if you get the precise measurements "mic, or calipers" that they can get a bearing that will work fine. I'm sure that Ford didn't make this bearing themselves.

Ford did not make this part, your right on that. So I called the mazda place (being its a mazda tranny) they tell me we do not make them, they are brought in by a company) any way, they did not have any clue. But thats not the idea, I have access to a micromiter, but I realy dont have much to measure, except a cup. C mon one of you SHO people, have to have a spare out of a busted tranny or at least some specs. This is harder than I thought.

The input shaft bearing is not inside the tranny,it`s the bearing that the input shaft rides on.A new bearing would not help because it is a pillow block with the housing.Once it`s done,it`s done. There is a way to "rig" it,but it won`t be cushioned by the rubber,so i don`t know how long/well it would hold up.

If this is the tapered bearing that sits at either end of the input shaft, the Ford part number is 7F431. This comes with the cup and the bearing itself. Depending on how melted those parts are you may also need a shim, part number 7l172.

Cross referenced the part numbers for you and they are available from BCA part number LM67010, although it appears that this may just be the cup the bearing sits in. This is a standard bearing. There must be something that will swap with this.

in the 2002 BCA application guide BCA shows a part number for the cone and cup.... the cup is as stated above LM67010 and the cone is an LMxxxxxA which is a reference to a bearing that they will at some point make.... as of 11:30am CST BCA does not have that bearing and is in the process of manufacturing it.... sorry about the x's in the part number... i'll give you the actual number they have tomorrow when i get off of work
