My owner's manual says 6 qts. It starts spilling after I put in 3 quarts.

What is the full capacity for the MTX tranny?

About a month ago I bought 6 quarts of Royal Purple. Before it was too cold for me to change the fluid and recently I broke my right hand, and I can't change the fluid. Plus I can't even drive my SHO! I'm getting surgery tomorrow. It isn't any fun, I have no job and can't write in school, or do much of anything...

So now I have 3 quarts of Royal Purple Synchromax. After I change the fluid, and make sure it doesn't take more than 3, I might sell the other 3 if someone wants them.

3 Quarts from bone dry Jose.

Ditto that.

And under normal fluid changing conditions (as in pull the drain "plug" to drain) you can only remove about 2.5 qts.

I use a small electric fluid pump to remove it all. :salute:

That "drain plug" isn't, for those who may think it is. It's not supposed to be disturbed (and then shift the trans while it's out).

If you do choose to use it as such, make sure you don't shift the trans while it's out, in other words.

The manual says 6.2 pints. That's 3.1 quarts if it were in fact bone dry.

3 quarts and a bit more is what it took to fill it before it started coming out of the fill hole. I had taken a quick look at the owner's manual, and I though I had read 6 quarts.

Thanks.

I am goiong to have to drain it again though, since my drivers side axle seal is leaking profusely. I guess I dinged the seal installing the new axle.

I have also a problem keeping the short Sho Shop transmission plug (the one that comes with the Y pipe) from leaking oil. I even wrapped it with teflon tape, but it continues to drip. I will grind down my original plug a bit and replace the SS plug next time I change the oil.

What a PITA. Old SHO's leak more that British motorcycles.

Maybe the oil plug needs a new gasket? Teflon tape won't help because its not a taperd thread.

EDIT: See response in later post. The statement below is in error.

Those are tapered threads and Teflon tape does work.

They why do they not have any interference when scerwing them in or taking them out? And use a gasket not teflon tape?

The oil plug is relatively new, so I dont think that the gasket would have worn out that fast.

I checked the owner's manual again, and it does say 6 qts. for the MTX. Must be a mistake.

I drained the tranny fluid, and tomorrow I will change the seal.

I resealed my oil pan, but it is still leaking by the tranny. I guess that it is my rear crank seal. I was very careful when I installed it, but I must have done something wrong.

I'm sorry about the oil plug response. I didn't read the previous post and though you were referring to the MTX fill plug. Disregard my statement.

It is a mistake. Found out the hard way. Ended up buying 7 quarts of RedLine while I only really needed half of that.
