Hi all..

When I performed my ATX to MTX tranny swap, I swapped the lower but not the upper speedo cables. The two plugged together okay, and it worked until recently when the VSS gear in the tranny sheared off. I attributed this to the upper cable being too long, which put the lower one in a bind (the lower one was pushed over at a pretty good angle instead of going straight down into the tranny).

First question: Is the MTX upper speedo cable shorter than the ATX upper cable?

I was under the impression that the MTX upper cable (plugs into speedo) is a fair bit shorter than the ATX upper cable. But..

Fast forward to today, when I was swapping out the upper ATX cable with a Dorman brand cable from Rockauto that is supposedly for a '92 MTX. The strange thing is that the new "MTX" one is about an inch longer than the ATX cable I just pulled!! Not sure what's going on here.. So,

Second question: For those with MTX's that have replaced the upper cable, where did you find it? Parts car, dealer, or aftermarket?

If parts car, then does anyone have a spare that they'd be willing to sell? :)

Thanks for the help!

IIRC the MTX one is quite a bit shorter. They prolly gave you another ATX or a SLO cable at the parts counter.

Thanks, that's what I thought.. Hopefully they can come up with a MTX cable at the dealer, because Rockauto doesn't have the right one apparently.
