So my clutch is acting up and I am considering trying to tackle the relatively complex task of changing to a different trans. Have access to a modern computerized shop as well as an electrical R and D facility. In order to identify candidate 6sp transmissions I first need to know some major dimensions of the MTX. Since I don't have a spare MTX around. I was wondering if anyone could supply: Overall length, width and input shaft centerline to axle centerline distance.Any help would be appreciated.

Let's just say that the cost vs.benefit for the various options will be determined. Potentially Honda, Nissan transmissions could be candidates with their factory HLSD. Maxima guys complain of baulky 3rd gear though. There are others as have been posted in the past.
First screening criteria: No subframe cutting for clearance.

Hope you have alot of money. TO my knowledge, no one has swaped a tranny into an mtx sho from another car.

Good luck, I'd like to see other options as far as transmissions go.

I think someone threw around the idea of the focus SVT 6-speed manual.

Good luck. It would be cool to see it happen!

I don't know that the SVTF tranny is any stronger than an MTX-IV. FWIW, the SVTF six-speed is the same six-speed in a Mini. (Made by ZF, IIRC, or Getrag.)

I remeber hearing that too. IMO I think the MTX-IV is pretty damn strong tranny. I bet a N/A car, six close ratio gears would be so fun to drive! It would make a stock SHO run low 14's. hahah.

when you have a shop at your disposal, the boss already bought the equipment, the lights and heat are already running and theres a pile of scrap sitting in the scrap barrel that you can pick through, making the stuff becomes cheap

its the actual production runs that wind up costing money

Here are some approximate numbers - ballpark, not guaranteed.

Bell housing mtg face to end of trans - 14"
Input shaft to axle shaft cl distance - 7.5"
Axle shaft is approx 4.5" below the input shaft
Max front to back distance - 21"

Getrag makes it, and from what I've heard it's pretty hawt.

Mine's holding up fine, although first gear is too tall for my taste. Personally I think the gears are too close for a SHO motor, but that's just me. The SVTF motor is similar to the SHO in that it makes torque over a broad range. I wasn't shifting any more at PIR in the SVTF than I do in the SHO, so I guess I just don't see the draw.

While I am gathering information I was wondering if anyone has a blown transmission case. The idea here is to use a gutted trans that can be easily transported for side by side comparison to the candidate transmissions.
