MSD Coil Group Buy Check In

A couple of years ago quite a few us bought the MSD coils from a fellow member in a group buy. If you bought them, how have they been? How many miles and have you had any issues? I will start.

They have been on my car since December of 2019. Have roughly 20k miles on then, and they are perfect.

I think I got mine about that time with over 30K on them and still doing well.

I have had mine for 2 years. I have had them in 2 separate cars. The first one was totaled in a head-on collision. I then swapped them to the new car. I had 2 injectors fail open causing misfire issues. Coils now have about 40k on them and are still working great. (I bought mine through Amazon Warehouse.)

I had one fail completely mid-drive while I was about 4 hours from home, was luckily near a NAPA that had Motorcraft coils in stock.

If you are talking about the group deal when we paid like 100 bucks for the set, I put about 55k miles on mine, no issues at all.

Smooth sailing with 65,000 on my set. Wow, I can’t believe I’ve clicked off that many miles since install.

As always, I do still have one of the OE coils in the trunk… just incase.

I kinda felt bad for the guy. He mentioned he could get them super cheep and it had to be at least 15 or more of us jumped on him to get a set.

Same, I bought the group buy, 20k/2yrs on them without issue.

Put mine in from the group buy in early 2020. I want to say it was early Feb, but not positive. Got about 45k on them now. No issues so far.

I haven’t had any issues from the group buy purchase either. I’ve only driven on them maybe 5k miles. Maybe less. No issues. Although I’d like black ones, mine are red. That’s it. Great so far, just now I prefer a different color haha

Unfortunately and before I continue I am not discouraging or blasting owners of these coils, but for me before my PCM failure I had a misfire code come up then total loss of ignition on a cylinder. Ford dealer immediately put blame on coil and found wiring to #6 dead on arrival from PCM. These MSD coils were less than 6 months old at the time.
Used PCM installed and calibrated and yes Delphi not motorcraft coils installed. No issue since.
I'm glad to see the majority have had no issues. But can also see from my point of view why this guy hates them.
