Ok i just finished my 60k and noticed a small shiny spot on the intake. after cleaning it all up and takign it out for a run i came back and the spot was back about .5inch long going parrallel to the wheels which i believe means the tranny mount is going. i want to go ahead and change all three mounts (jt if you see this can i get a quote on the cost of your reinforced mounts) but don't have the money to bring it to a shop yet because i want to get the rust taken care of first. will the motor mounts hold out long enough or should they be changed right away.

Honestly, every car is different and it really depends on how bad the mounts are. I would imagine that under normal driving conditions that you'd have plenty of time to get some mounts. Just take it easy on it for awhile.

Please keep in mind that a rub mark on your intake is not solely indicative of bad motor mounts. A good deal of motor flex happens also when you have bad subframe bushings, so you may want to look there also.

Set the E-Brake and slowly drop the clutch and give it some gas while the hood open and watching through the bottom. Seeing your engine rise 5 inches out of the bay will give you some motivation :D Seriously, if you ignore it, not only will you have an ugly intake, but think about all the things moving around when the engine lifts up 5" out of the bay and think about all the electronics your crushing behind the engine. I just had my front mount replaced with a 130 dollar reinforced one, having the engine secure fixed my clutch worries as well as shift feel. It just shows you how much affect a moving engine has on other compenents.

I waited to change my mounts, and my exhaust seperated where the y-pipe and resonator meet :mad: . If you have the money i would change the mounts ASAP. Bad mounts will start causing all sorts of unwanted problems; including bad shifting. It could be only one mount that has gone bad. My back one's safty bolt busted and the metal was cracked. i replaced it and that ended many problems.

Just because your car feels like it shifts fine doesn't mean your mounts are fine. The shiny spot means you engine is torquing and rubbing against the hood. If your shiny spot is long and horizontal then you need subframe bushings. if the spot is vertical it is your motor mount(s). You don't want your mounts to get bad enough so your car does shift bad.

ditto, if there is a shinny spot most likely the front mount is bad thats a given, test it like I said with the e-brake you will see how bad it is. When I got my car back from getting the mount replaced with a reinforced, my car felt 100% better, jerking movements when accelerating were gone, shifting was wayyyy better, clutch felt like its supposed to, and kept the power where its supossed to be, at the wheels! I recommend you do it and do it right, get the reinforced mount so you won't be in the same predicament again.

Shadow102 my guess for all 3 mounts and having them installed would be between $600-$800. Someone correct me if i'm wrong because i only had one installed. I tried doing it myself but the bolt was frozen so the head snapped off :mad: . I say try to do them yourself. even if you only get one in you will still save some $. It's not a hard job if the bolts aren't that rusted. My car had 178K so that's a lot of salt,water, and snow making the bolts nice and rusted :D .

So is there three motor mounts and one trans mount? Would the roll dampers cause the spot on the intake? Mine started doing it in 2 places, so what does that mean? On my 89 it had it so bad that it actually cut into the intake leavine a nice gash. So before that happenes to anyone else, I would recommend covering it up. I cut a nice piece of soft towel and bungie corded a flat piece of sheet metal over the spots to protect it before I replace them.
I got a quote for 212.50 parts and labor to replace the two motor mounts...sounded like a good deal to me...? Who has the reinforced mounts and how much do they cost?

Shadow, just E-mail JT. He and Kirk are making a bunch of mounts right now. I emailed him a few weeks ago, and they were out of them, but there's a new batch being made. Hopefully they'll be ready in like a week or two.

Either that or contact Josh T. at www.shonutperformance.com as he also sells reinforced motor mounts. They list for:
Front = $135
Rear = $110
He also sells EXTREME reinforced mounts which are $20 more each.
I don't believe anyone has come up with a reinforced tranny mount, but I definitely could be wrong! Anyone hear about reinforced tranny mounts?

Change the mounts as soon as possible. I had to change all three on mine when I bought my SHO. The motor rocked so much that I damaged my DIS module on the shock tower. Every time I took off the engine would rock back and smash the DIS, I was almost stranded on my vacation. Fix it now because it can only get worse.

Josh makes EXCELLENT products,there`s no way to go wrong with him.That being said,our mounts are stiffer,stronger,and more durable than the Extreme mounts.In fact,we`ve strengthed a set of them already.We also DO have rigid tranny mounts,the only ones available anywhere.We`re leaving for Illinois for Camfest on Thrusday(just returned from Camfest Washington DC on Monday),but will have sets available in late April.
If you can all wait,that`s great.You WILL notice a huge improvement in engine movement and shifitng accuracy with them.If not,while the Extreme mounts aren`t as rigid as ours,i wouldn`t blink an eye at buying his products,they are great.

shoterror did u have some one do it for u if so how much did it cost
I had my mechanic install it, the book says just over an hour on labor so it worked out to be 80 dollars for labor and about 150 for the front mount after shipping. 9/10 times its the front mount, you'll be able to tell real quick with the e-brake test, just take it in and have them check it out as well. Like I said it is truely worth it, also don't mess around with these 30 dollar mounts, they won't hold up as well and I tried going this route but they don't fit so the mechanic will have to clock out and wait for you to get one that does.

How much would a set of your mounts cost? I am broke right now, but I probably will have the money by the time you have more available.

If you have mounts that are still good,it`s $40 per mount to strengthen them.If not,they are $110 ea.
