Motor Mount Pics *56K Beware!*

I bought a 94 MTX back in October for $550 with a bad motor mount. I have been real lazy and didn't replace it until now (I wish I didn't wait until now it was F'in COLD!) When I took the old one out I realized why the engine moved so much (the pictures say it all). Sorry for the big pics

Here's the old mount mount, look at the metal around the bolt

Oh wait where did the bolt go???

Oh there it is!

Also one of the bolts broke while removing it (gotta love rust!)

Its kinda scary when that happens isnt it. I had it happen to mine and I got a reiforced mount and have not had a problem with it yet.

I agree, reinforce the mount before you install it. This will save you time and money later, when you have to change it again.

Nice broken mount! Ive received a few mounts like your broken mount as cores.

It is repairable, but takes some work. It must be completely stripped of rubber, cleaned up, double welded, and plated in order to be usable again.

I also agree that you should have your new mount reinforced before installing it. Although, it will not help avoid the type of failure your broken mount experienced.

From what I have seen, breaks like this are 100% related to corrosion: moisture collecting in the bottom of the mount. The factory mounts have a few holes in the steel cups that were used to aid in pouring the rubber.

All of my urethane mounts are 100% sealed from the elements. The hope is to eliminate this type of failure. :type:
