Well, my '94 ATX faild MA state inspection, in part due to a bad motor mount. When I got it home I put the car in reverse, stepped on the brake, and blipped the throttle. The engine rocked forward just a bit. I put the car in drive and blipped the throttle again, and the engine heaved towards the rear quite a bit. Just wondering which mount I should replace as I really don't want to replace both. I searched through the various threads and there's nothing that really tells me which one may be bad. Any ideas?

it sounds like a front mount to me, and possibly the tranny mount.

The thing with engine mounts is that when one goes it tends to rip the other(s) with it, so if you replace one and another is starting to go in the future you might end up replacing everything all over again.

I say do the front first if the engine still rocks forward in reverse then do the rear and the tranny as well.

Thanks for the info guys :thumb: Looks like I'll be replacing that one first and go from there.

Front mount is clearly toast.

Test the tranny mount by placing the front on jackstands. Place a floor jack under the tranny and gently try to raise the transmission. If there is a disconnect in the motion of the transmission and the subframe at them mount, the mount has separated and needs replacement.

I will give you some advice from my experience with ATX motor mounts..They SUCK, Mine broke and I put off installing my solid front motor mount, It messed up my hood, hood mat, and the surface of my runners..

Mine broke in two pieces and was extremely damaged..Take a look

Solid mount installed..

You can see the piece of metal along the side of the mount that braces the top to the bottom, the way the car feels with the solid one is amazing.
