I just finished the front 60k . When I started the engine i got a kinda high pitched howl. which turned into a wobble at times. I first thought it was the acc belts but then i used a stethoscope to try to find it and it was coming from the timing cover right by the cam sprockets. I took it for a spin around the block no real power losses. bust this loud hum. I had decided to replace the tensioner. when I was tightening it I read to loosen the nut then let the tensioner tighten against the belt then tighten it further against the belt I did that but in retrospec i think I tightened it too much. The belt tensioner was replaced though along with the CPS (because I broke the damn thing accidentally.) Is a new tensioner supposed to make a funny noise??/ How bad is it too overtighten the timing belt?? Are we talking it could break soon or it just won't last as long???

It seems like its just a loud hum. i gets really loud. I just drove over to my parents house and the car ran ok. I got a code 13 on engine running. i notice a high idle. It will rev up to 1200 then to 1500 then ill throttle it and it'll go back down I don't know if this has anything to do with it. Also I can't figure out how loosening the tensioner will get rid of a whine??? anyone have any ideas.

Thanks

Did you forget to install the little "slinger" washer that goes between the crank pulley and the crank timing belt sprocket? If so, your timing belt is probably walking and sawing through your timing covers.

I wish I did. I know for a fac I got that installed though. although the timing belt sawing the timing cover is a possibility. how else can It do this. I heard the noise mainly by the camshaft sprockets. any other possibilities

hmmm.... any other way the timing bel can touch the timing cover. Could I have pushed the belt back too far and could i be grinding the rear timming cover? Also. Is there any risk in trying to get the upper timming cover off and running the engine just to pinpoint the problem? mabe even trying to get the middle or lower cover off a bit to access the tensioner?

To make you feel better, there is no problem in running the motor with the timing cover. I'd put it back on as soon as you figure out what the problem is.
