I have a '98 Slo that I swapped a '96 JBL rcu and sub combo into. Volume is pretty good but the bass is pretty weak, not much more than stock. I was wondering if anybody has rewired the amp on the sub to put out more power.

If that doesn't work, I'm wondering if a Gen2 SHO sub and amp (if the sub has a seperate amp) will work if I just splice wires.

The only reason I'm considering these methods is for the stock look(or as close as possible). Thanks for any input.

Get a ~400W mono sub amp and a separate woofer 10"-12". Tap into the rear deck speakers for speaker level inputs and call it a day.

Not worth the effort nor would it be reliable if it could be done. Much easier to spend $100 on a real amp.

does anyone know if theres enough room under the rear deck to mount a 10 or 12 inch sub that fires into the cabin? If so, perhaps a custom stereo shop could fab up a nice box that you could mount under the rear deck..

Plus, i've never heard the gen 3 sub, but i dont know if the gen 2 sub/box is too much of an improvement..

How much power do you think the '96 sub can handle?

The biggest you could fit under the rear deck is an 8".
