misaligned power steering pulley?

The pulley on my power steering pump seems to be misaligned. It works fine as far as I can tell but it's about one rib too far over. I've had a history of pulley problems and it's shredded a couple of belts. The last time I left the belt with a rib shaved and the squeaking has gone away once it settled into its current position.





As you can see, the belt is one rib over on the power steering pump. Any idea what would cause this or how to fix it?

check them pulley bearings. maybe something wrong with the pump or loose bolts somewhere.

That pulley gets twisted often I would check if is straight.

On my GenIII I had a similar issue and the crank pulley was the issue as it is a 2 piece pulley that is press fit together that can separate. They (ps pulley) can also get twisted as mentioned above, or any other misalignment in the belt path can make fitment off.

Thanks. Everything else lines up correctly. I will try to check the pulley while I'm in there.

On an unrelated note, I plan to fix the leaking camshaft seals (finally). How do I go about getting all that oil off of there (preferably BEFORE mucking around that area too much and getting super-nasty)? A pressure washer with degreaser detergent would probably take care of it pretty quickly but I'm hesitant about spraying high pressure water around in there, especially with the intake manifold off.

Don't use a pressure washer on your motor. It won't like it.

I probably won't do it, but is that still true even if I plan on letting it sit a good, long time after? Hours at the least, possibly days.
