So theres a SHO that I'm going to go look at, my friend has driven it before, he said it was pretty nice, I've never seen it, just heard about it.

94 sho
144,000 mi
slight hail damage
leather ok condition
recent top end rebuild

he's asking $1500 and it needs anew CV joints, so maybe i can talk him down a bit more, but he says this is pretty much as cheap as he can go. does it sound ok? what else should i look for.

btw, the guy bought it new, he works at a ford dealership and had all maintenence done there, and pretty much did everything if anything went wrong.

i think thats it.

thanks

You can find general info on what to look for here: http://www.shotimes.com/php-bin/modules.php?op=modload&name=News&file=article&mode=thread&order=0&thold=0&sid=41

Specific questions:

When was the last 60K valve adjustment performed?

How old are the plugs and wires?

When was the timing belt and other front end (MTX - 60K, ATX - 100K) service performed?

If MTX, how old is the clutch?

FWIW, CV half shafts cost about $60 each from AutoZone.

otherwsie, just check it out so you know what you're getting into. The SHO can become a big expense item if you don't do your own work (and even if you do...). Just be aware of what you're buying.

If it's an MTX and you know how to work on these beast's yourself, I'd say go for it. On the other hand if it's in dire need of a major motor overhaul see how much you can talk this guy down and then look at your expenses based on the price that you talk him down to.
