Received an answer from MGP Caliper Covers. They do NOT do group buys, however the directed me to CarID website. I sent them an e-mail tonight asking if they are interested in doing a group buy for us. Also as a side note, their price for the covers is the best I've seen. They are priced at $199.99. This is the first place I've seen them under $200.00. I did not check their shipping charges, will do that after tomorrow. But even if if they do not do a group buy this is a $30.00 of MSRP for the caliper covers.

This is one of those things that traipses that fine line between tasteful and rice. If it's truly a quality piece, it falls just a scosche on the tasteful side. Anything less...

...well, by buddy Dom Toretto would like to have a word with you.

I think it's awesome you're trying to organize better prices for people, that's a great attitude and exactly the type of person this forum needs more of.

That said, I can't stand caliper covers myself, it's on the same level as stick-on carbon fiber and electric superchargers to me. If it was me I'd put the $200 towards brake upgrades, or better pads. That's just my opinion, I still think you should do whatever you like best, even if other people don't like it.

I'm not telling people I have upgraded brakes, i'm just trying to improve the appearance of my car. I could spend the better part of a day painting my calipers, or I could buy these and save a lot of time. Comparing caliper covers to electric superchargers is silly. They are supposed to reduce brake dust and reduce temps on the caliper as well. Who knows if thats true, but it's a bonus if it does.

I have no desire to upgrade my brakes. For what I use the car for they do a fine job. Besides the TCE are $2,700 for front and rears. Thats a big stretch from $200.

He is trying to gather interest for a group buy to save us money. If you guys dont like them why bother posting? It's not helping anyone out.

I see no difference between this or painting calipers. I'm not telling people I have upgraded brakes, i'm just trying to improve the appearance of my car.

They look like a fixed caliper for a reason. You are imitating a fixed caliper over a floating caliper. It goes right up there with the disk brake simulators that are clearly seen on the Fast and the Furious Mitsubishi Eclipse... The movie that spawned a new kind of rice.

I could spend the better part of a day painting my calipers, or I could buy these and save a lot of time. Comparing caliper covers to electric superchargers is a poor comparison. They are supposed to reduce brake dust and reduce temps on the caliper as well. Who knows if thats true, but it's a bonus if it does.

Yes, they'll save you time, but if you really think that they'll reduce the dust, read the rest of their ad.

The MGP Caliper Covers will reduce not only the brake dust, but the covers actually act as a heat shield which reduces the amount of heat to your brakes.

Watch out, radiant asphalt heat is a killer... They're keeping the heat on the wrong side of the caliper.

I have no desire to upgrade my brakes. For what I use the car for they do a fine job. Besides the TCE are $2,700 for front and rears. Thats a big stretch from $200.

That's completely understandable.

Lastly if you guys don't like this, why bother posting here? He is trying to gather interest for a group buy to save us money. If you don't like it then why waste the time posting? You aren't contributing to anything.

What everyone is trying to tell you, maybe nicer than me, that it is kinda ricey. I've seen them a few times and every time, someone always mentions "rice".

If you are any bit offended by responses, the Internet is not for you. What really matters is that it's your car and that you have every right to do what makes you feel better, placebo or not. :)

Who said i'm offended? I could care less what you or anyone else thinks of me and my car. What i'm trying to point out is you and the other people are contributing nothing to this thread, so why bother posting? The OP started it to gather interest for a group buy. Maybe you are new to the internet, but it's called common courtesy to keep quiet if you don't have anything nice to say. It's a good rule for in the real world too ;)

Fyi I dont care for the gen1 or gen 2 shos, but I don't go in other sections of the site and tell everyone I don't like their cars. It's called courtesy. Catch my drift?

Just to keep this straight, I'm trying to gather information and see if I can get a price break (not brake) for those who may have some interest in purchasing the Caliper Covers. I did not start this thread to discuss whether they are ugly, beautiful, functional, or anything else. I'm just trying to get the lowest price and pass it on to the people here who have been so helpful. Nothing more, nothing less. If you like the covers fine, and if you don't that's fine.....

Last thoughts-feel free to discuss the merits and demerits of the caliper covers here, that's also fine. But for me, I have beasts that I have to wrestle to the vet this morning then I am off for a day of scuba...assisting at our Dive Center and then this evening I'm off to do my PADI 2011 Instructor Update. Have fun be back late tonight.

I'm interested as well. I would think that the "rice" or "poser" comments would apply more if I was interested in getting these caliper covers with the words Brembo or some other high quality brake brand name on them.....

I'm not interested in pretending to have these brakes. I think that would be lame. What I am interested in as Billm0066 said is having a way for my calipers to be red without painting them myself. I think that I would like SHO or something along those lines on my set.

What is going on is a discussion, maybe you're new to the idea. We can and will throw in our ideas when we want. If you don't like it... I got nothing for you. The real world works this way too.

Nope. And nobody said they didn't like your car.

That is the reason why I bought these covers too, to save me money from the $2,700 calipers. Also have any one seen the factory painted calipers? Off to the side it will catch your eye, but looking at it just looks dumb.

I have all ready been given good remarks from the covers and the people are saying “wow I like you after market brake calipers!!” People think they are real not just a cover. Even for the heat; are we using the Sho to race on the streets every day driving hard and braking hard into the corners or stop lights? No, well I am not. The heat does not have anything to do with me.

here is a nother photo from the distance even though you can not see it but I have the SHO in black in the covers

Well, that's because most people who have any idea about anything car related are either too busy laughing or are too nice to say how ridiculous they look.

But, it is true there are plenty of car ignorant people out there. So if you can deal with the behind your back laughing, then enjoy those who don't have any clue complimenting them. I'm not being mean, I'm just telling it like it is.

As I was looking at your sweet looking SHO, my brother came up wanting to chat and made a comment on how nice your SHO looked. I told him I was looking at this thread about caliper covers. His response? "AAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGHHHHHH! That's awful. What rice!"

Per painted calipers... I did mine last spring. Almost all the paint has flaked off!
Also painted all my GM calipers, and the paint stays on and looks GREAT!... Must be a coating on Ford calipers that needs to be sanded off. That's why I would like to do these...if they FIT.

Just dont , someday a real car guy will check it out and ask you if you took those at walmart , you'll feel pretty cheap and ashamed of yourself. Save yourself the embarassement.

Some men like fat girls and some men like skinny girls. I do know how people can see a Japan car from a full size 4 door sedan made from Ford. But I am the type of man who likes their women with a little meat for the bigger top and back. Everyone is different and that is the reason why we all have different SSN. There was even people who do not like the grills I places on the front. There are even people who do not like the sticker I placed on the back wind shield. I do not care, I love my car and proud of what I am doing with it.

O-yea there are people who even want to complain about other people’s cars who do not even do anything to their own car.

This reminds me of the people who I ride me motorcycle with. I have Honda CBR 954RR and I am a rider. I run into the type of people who talk S&%T all the time but have not even placed 500 miles on to their bikes or people who talk which do not even own a bike.
