Dont know too much about it, but some mustang Kid the other day with a big head was telling me to run Methanol Injection on the SHO. I think that is nuts considering I have 173k, no real mods or knowledge about it.

Has anyone ever ran Methanol Injection or Alcohol Injection on a SHO motor before? Did it hold up well?

Just Curious if It would be worth it when It came down to a race, AutoX or something of that Nature.

(I do not plan on doing anything like this.)

That's more of a turbo/supercharged kind of thing. Maybe he is one of the uninformed that thinks its supercharged...

He had a Short throw shifter, Intake, Exhaust and some weak cams and talked it up like he knew everything.

He tried to talk me into it. It was funny...

The main purpose for Methanol/Water injection is to help cool off the air coming out of a supercharger going into the engine so you can run higher boost and more timing. It would help if you had a turbo or supercharger.

Bob is correct - without boost (hot intake air) there is no point in methanol injection in any engine.

Would running Methanol injection provide a higher octane as well? ... what is the octane of Methanol?

I've ran meth injection in four of my vehicles. As stated above, they are made primarily for forced induced applications. The meth injection helps to cool the air before entering the motor and helps in gaining a few extra horses in the process. It will raise the octane of your fuel also, which is where you are able to better tune your vehicle for the extra horses. On the a SHO, I wouldn't bother.

Not only for boosted cars. High compression engines can benefit from this as well, by way of lowering the combustion chamber temps to allow (like in a boosted app) more timing advance.

On a stock SHO motor, meh. Maybe keep the intake runners cleaner?

A while back, after doing a 2.5l SVT 'Tour head swap onto a 3.0 Duratec SLO, the owner of the car was doing research into methanol induction, as opposed to injection. No pumps, nothing mechanical to fail and pump stuff into your intake. I forget how it worked, and I don't think he ever did it, but it was a pretty neat theory.

Snow performance has a n/a kit. They claim it useful for octane increasing in n/a applications, I'm sure if used in conjunction with a tweecer you could increase timing advance and while keeping a safety margin.

You're only going to get so far with timing advance and you'd be much better off going with N2O since you'd already be dealing with refills. You'll have to add timing just to make up of the power loss that injecting meth/water alone will take away.

I've run meth/water injection on my SHO since I put the supercharger on it for the sole purpose of controlling knock. It works very well at doing this, but I also tune on the safe side so that if it fails, I'll be safe until I realize it just failed. When tuning the car without meth/water injection, and then adding meth/water, you can feel a loss in power with the same tune to where I had to add timing and tweak AFR's. Pesonally, I'd rather put the money/work into switching to E85 as it burns cooler(faster) and has higher octane.
