I'm Curious on whats the Largest brake setup that can fit under a 15'' Wheel.

I'm trying to use 15'' wheels on the track car (15x9 or 10'' Wheels) for Auto-X. Obviously the wilwoods on the car now will not work.

Calipers from 96-2003? Mustang GT dual piston PBR aluminum calipers.
Will fit under 15" wheels.
I don't think they will hold up to track events though.

With those Wilwoods you should be able to fit a larger rotor than you otherwise would, they have great clearance. You'll need a smaller rotor and a different bracket for the caliper, but you could make them fit under 15s.

Pretty much.

Prepare to go slower, Sam.

For Auto-Cross? Absolutely not.

For one, I need the gearing - I'm stuck at 3500-4000 RPM in second for most of the course. That sucks if you have Cams.

As far as Brakes? Except for on the Longer courses that are on airstrips...I don't use them enough to warrant a 13x1.1'', 4 piston Caliper brake setup. Infact, After about 6,000 Miles of street driving and well over 100 Auto-X Runs, My Brake pads (Hawk HP-S) Show almost no wear at all. Yes, The 15'' Wheel setup would be strictly for Auto-X so obviously any hopes for a Fast Road Course car goes out the window but I'm sticking with Auto-X this coming season.

IIRC your car's pretty light I bet you'd be ok since it's just autoX and your brakes get time to cool a little between runs. My buddy has a track car he runs stock brakes on and does just fine. His car's so light there really isn't a need for huge heavy brakes.

Exactly. With that said however, I wouldnt expect any 10.9'' Brake to hold up on a Road course with my car. The Front end is just to damned heavy (Not much lighter then stock!).

I'm only talking for Auto-X here.

Last I checked, those Wilwoods were lighter than even Cobra brakes. So going down to a smaller rotor with a heavier caliper doesn't seem to make a lot of sense.

I understand why BUT is it worth it in the long run?? I get the 15" wheels for gearing and another plus is cheaper rubber. But IMO it just not worth it. even just for auto-x...

Plus who knows when a road track event could pop up in the future. then ur SOL. How much faster will this make it? I dont know but I would keep the 13"'s.

Just going from a 45 series tire to a 40 series made a difference. In a form of Autosport where .100 of a second is a big deal, Every little bit helps. I've been caught in MANY situations where I just did not have enough RPM coming out of a Corner. Running a Course in 1st gear is NOT a option as the car will get horribly unsettled trying to find a Line.

FWIW, From the tire size I have now, To the Tire size I want to run, The gearing would Jump up to 3.91.

However, Don't worry about it. After sending a few emails around, The cost of some 15x9 wheels to be made for the car is far too expensive for me right now. I'm just going to order some 17x9's from Josh, Throw some 255's all the way around and call it a day.

Why not try a middle compromise with good brakes and 16" wheels with low-profile tires? That's been working for a lot of people on a lot of different cars.

Get some 205s and stretch them over your current wheels ;).
