Got my 89 back together tonight; it starts up, squeals like a banshee, stumbles, and immediately stalls. If I hold down on the gas and rev it hard, it will run, but it stumbles horribly and still squeals like a banshee. The sound reminds me of a seized pulley, but I checked them and all seem ok. Saw a little smoke to from the front VC and accessory area, but that could be burn off from all the junk I cleaned stuff with while I had it apart.

I checked everything, all the plugs, lines, etc.

Tonight I removed and reinstalled the intake. The car is running minus the squeal and runs smooth when on the gas; however, when idling, it runs really rough and there's smoke coming from under the hood. Can't pinpoint where.

When I adjusted the PCV hose, it literally broke off. I replaced it with standard bulk hose. I took the TB off to help in reconnecting the hoses, and part of the gasket broke off (was anything ever done to this car?). I could hear a leak in that area, so I will replace that. I also noticed the large rear vacuum hose at the back of the intake was hissing and has a leak (I'll replace that too). Not sure if all those combined will make the car run smoother, but it's smoking really bad under the hood. Any ideas?

EDIT: The smoke looks like whatever it was burned off. Probably the 4 cans of Brake Clean / Carb Cleaner I used on everything while it was apart. Now it surges on and off. I cleaned the Idle air valve too. I think the TB gasket leak is the culprit since you can hear air escaping.

Still have some tweaking to do with this thing. I can make a video if that'd help.

If it has multiple vacuum leaks after the throttle body it will run like crap...until they are sealed/fixed.

With it being a '89 with poor history, I would anticipate replacing every single gasket/hose I come across.

They sell PCV/emissions hose at most auto parts stores, you should really use that...it will hold up a lot longer/better as the temperature and gasses will cook that bulk hose.

Doug

They were out of emissions hose that size apparently; this rated good enough for fuel, I believe. It's thicker.
