I recently acquired my '93 SHO (always liked these cars, found a good deal).

It's an ATX which really isn't an issue after driving it for the past couple of weeks as it does just fine DD and when I get a bit spirited (not that often, cheaper on the fuel tank) but I just like having a standard. Anyway, I was out looking for a new driver's seat for the car when I came across a first gen with the 3.0 and a stick complete (missing only the intake actually). I was searching about a week ago and came across an article or post (can't remember which) that said there was an issue with the sleeve around the input shaft being aluminum and the TO bearing wearing it down after some time, also read that it was a recall at one point in time.

Can that part be replaced relatively easily or is it a royal PITA? I can get all the parts to swap for under $200...

Thanks guys...

Well, its pretty much a pain. To get to the tob, you need to pull the trans, which requires dropping the subframe while you hold up the engine in some manner.

If your talkin about swapping in a MTX in your ATX, yes you almost need a complete donor MTX car for parts. A lot of work! If you want a stick, just buy a stick car!

I know the details of swapping the car over to a MTX, I'm talking about the trans issues ('89-'91) itself.

it sounds to me your thinking of the recalled 9.25" clutch disc on the 89 and 90 cars. I doubt that there are many of those left out there.

i believe b/c of the 2 diff types on the mtx u need a sleeve so it doesnt wear down, thats how my friend blew his new clutch (he bought the car with a bad one in it) wasnt his fault, the idiots at his local shop didnt and still dont kno a damn thing about these cars. (he took it to them again and this time they forgot to adjust the clutch pedal and there went the second new clutch). id get the mtx and punch it out to a 3.8 hehe
