so I got this LPM chip from another car

if I send it into a place to have it programmed, say someone like SHOSource, does it matter what the LPM came off of?

I believe this one is from a ex police car, either a 5.0 or a Crown Vic... I forget

only information I have on the chip is this

JET Powertech module
part # 79412

c. 96 Jet Perf prod

thanks for any help

Yes it matters. The PROM on the LPM must be the correct capacity and LPM pins must match up with the correct outputs.

People incorrectly refer to any ECU chip for the SHO as an "LPM".
LPM is simply a specific proprietary brand of chip for our ECUs.
Kinda like NOS is a brand of nitrous.
Technically our chips are called "J3" memory modules, and work with eec4-5 ECUs.

my question is, if I have a J3.... can it be tuned(reprogrammed) for a SHO if it wasn't from a SHO originally.........

is this just a definte no if its from another car, or are some compatable and it would require more research of me to see what computers are compatabile with each other?

wouldn't any EEC-4 computer take the same pins? there are other things for the computers besides our tuner chips that use this spot on the ECU...... Ford has had reprogrammers for it for OEM cars, then there is the TwEECer...... are there different chords for the tweecer program depending on what vehicle you are using?

like if I bought a tweecer to use on my 93 x2j SHO, I couldn't go and use it on a 94 D4U1 ATX later on down the road, or a 92 5.0 mustang.... with their respective programming and computer calibrations?

seems wierd to me the plug in module is not a universal thing for EEC-4 computers, and its the information on the chip that is vehicle specific........ and if people were able to reprogram these modules...like SHOSource, couldn't they take anyone and reprogram it for a SHO.......

actually you can. you just have to change the pcm code.

the reason why most cant be used on the sho is because no one that tunes the sho owns the program to use on the chip you have. the reason why we can all use the tweecer is because tweecer gives us the program to download. if JET gave you the program they use to write to the chip with then we could.

Don't know still. We could give it a try but that one might be beyond what we can do.
