lower control arm subframe bolt

I am in the process of replacing my lower control arms and I'm having a little bit of trouble on the passenger side. Everything was going fine until I tried removing the bolt that attaches the control arm to the subframe. If I put the nut back on and try to back out the bolt that way the bushing inside of the control arm also turns so there is no way for me to back it out that way. I tried taking a chisel to the end of the bolt and to no avail. Anyone have any pointers on what maybe I should try next?

Do you have air tools? If so, put a rounded punch bit in air chisel. Stretch a short piece of vinyl tubing over end of punch Screw nut half way on end of bolt, this will hold punch centered on bolt. Vinyl will protect nut threads. Air chisel will vibrate the bolt out.

I have used a large, flat-tipped screwdriver or pry bar between the end of the bolt and the depression in the subframe to lever the bolt out.

Had the air chisel on it for almost 45 seconds and did absolutely nothing. Tried heat, air, hammer, and nothing. The bolt will turn but so will the bushing inside of the control arm...I've given up for now, any suggestions? How much would it cost just to take it to someone?

Sound like the bolt is fused to the bushing in the LCA.

That sucks.

You'll be replacing the LCA bushing and the bolt, but a cutoff wheel or a jigsaw through the LCA bushing will sever the bolt in the sleeve. Remove the remnants from either end, and remove the LCA.

Use a new grade 8,8 or 9,8 ****** bolt and nut in the right length, size, and pitch, and you're done. New metric bolts can be purchased from Metric & Multistandard Components Corporation http://www.metricmcc.com
