i just got my car out of the shop from being painted, it's not black and looks incredilbe and I proud to say i did a lot of the work, but anyway, ever since i've got it back, when i go faster than 60 MPH, the coolant light comes on for about 3 seconds, the shuts off, it does it intermittantly, any ideas. Could the sensor just be dirty? any input would be great. thanks in Advance.

I realize this might be a stupid question, but what is the coolant level?

Also, you said you just painted it, check all the grounds for the engine & sensors! If they are on painted surfaces they will not be grounding properly and will cause erratic behaivor. I think your coolant level may just be borderline low and the temp drop from the cooling on the highway causes it to drink a little too much, drawing the level down, and then burps it back out...

LOL, i'll take that as a humorous comment, it's well above the sensor in the overflow and it's at the top of the radiator. the coolant levels are good. I meant to add that in in the original post. sorry

Try cleaning the coolant sensor in the reservior. Sometimes they get all gummed with sludge, which makes them non-conductive in water(coolant).

For most of us its common sense, but there are those people who seem to miss the obvious. I had a friend tell me his car needed a new radiator, hoses, and thermostat because it was overheating. I asked him if he had checked the coolant level, and he asked, "Well, why does it matter how much it has???" I proceeded to walk out to his car to find the radiator almost dry. filled it with 50/50 and he was shocked and amazed to find it worked perfectly... Some people! Like the previous post says, pull the sensor and clean it up. if that doesn't fix it your coolant may be doing electrolysis, in other words, carrying an electric charge. Try having the sytem flushed if cleaning the sensor doesn't fix it. good Luck!
