Hi all

Newbie here just joined today, although have been lurking on and off since I got my 13 SHO back in January.

I've recently (this week) noticed a loss of power, its weird as the power at low RPM seems normal, but as you accelerate and get to around 2500-3000rpm the car just loses power.

If you hold a steady throttle position the car surges and slows, surges and slows and you can see the rev counter raise and fall and well as feel it surge from the driver seat. You can also hear the turbo spooling and dumping in time with each surge.

If you try to accelerate through it there is a complete lack of power and the car feels very slow, almost like no boost at all

The other thing i noticed today whilst giving it a little road test on a quiet toll road, is that it almost wont accelerate enough to change up out of 3rd gear, just runs out of puff.

Feels to me that I have a turbo issue, but wondering if someone more knowledgeable would be able to give me some pointers. Is it likely to be a turbo failure, some kind of leak etc.

The car SHOULD be covered by Ford warranty (original and CPO) so i will get it back to the dealer asap, but any input in the meantime is appreciated.

Thanks

Could be the TSS/OSS sensors on the trans, tho these have usually been a problem on 2010-12 MYs, along with chafing knock sensor wiring. A stuck wastegate would also tell the PCM/ECU to restrict power. Would be nice to know what boost levels you are seeing when the problem occurs. Could also be loose turbo piping creating a leak. Check clamps.

Thanks for reply and info.

Yeah unfortunately I have no way of knowing what boost level Im seeing, but would be nice to know

The power is there a low rpm, you feel the car pick up pretty quickly, you can feel and hear the turbo spool up, its as the rev's rise and the rpm increases it loses power and the surging effect kicks in.

If i was just driving around town I doubt I'd notice it, i dont notice the issue at all in 1st or 2nd and at low rpm in 3rd it feels torquey and picks up as id expect, but as soon as you head to the freeway or find an open road there is a very noticeable loss of power in 3rd gear on

Im hoping something simple like lose turbo piping

I am thinking turbo leak. I hope that's all it is. Tighten a clamp or two and off you go!

At the risk of sounding really dumb where should i be looking for loose clamps etc, its all a bit cramped under there!! Are they easily to get at or best left to dealer to investigate?

I would let the dealer mess with it at this point. It could be anything really. They can run all the tests and get to the bottom of it.

Mine too

Just had my 2013 fixed had all the same symptoms as yours. Ford fixed a hose and clamp to the MAP sensor which was causing an over boost issue. $7.00 part $120.00 in labor. Seems to be a common problem, tech new what is was when I told him how car was acting.

SHOdded WOW sometime I miss the good old days of engine mechanics LOL, there is a LOT going on under that SHO engine cover !!!. Think I will just leave it all alone and let the dealer fix :)

pcds_146 thanks, good to know.

Now I just need to find time to get the car to the dealer.

Yes I'm not looking forward to the whole dealer conversation "they all do that sir"

I'm just struggling with time this week to get her booked in, hopefully I can sort it for next week and get it fixed without to much hassle

Much appreciate all the feedback

When you data logged, what did the knock do? How much timing was it pulling? You can also configure a pid in torque to show you knock.
