There are a couple of things that you have to consider before tightening the trunk latch. First, does the trunk fit flush with the surrounding body work in its current fit? You can adjust the two rubber stops , one at each corner of the rear seal on the trunk lid to tighten the trunk against the latch. They screw in and out to lower and raise the trunk when closed. These are used to set the height of the trunk. The other thing to chage is the latch plate. There are two 8 or 10mm bolts that hold this to the trunk. Make sure you move the latch in a vertical motion so as not to misalign the trunk. You should set the latch height and the rubber stops to get the trunk to the correct height and to secure it at this level. Another thing that helps keep the trunk lid snug is the weatherstripping. Is it worn or torn? It may need to be repaired or replaced.
