Even though I joined back in 2009, I haven't really introduced myself yet. Anyway, I had a 95 ATX back in 1999-2001 and haven't been the same since. That was honestly the only car I've owned that everyone seemed to like. I've been trying to get back into one for quite some time now. Right now I currently own an Accord, Maxima, and a Grand Cherokee, but would love to add another SHO to the line-up.

Welcome.

This isn't the same game it was in 1999-2001. Odds are that if you find the cheapest car you can on craigslist, its going to be a money pit and give you tons of headaches. I would suggest sifting through the classified ads here for a nicely maintained SHO. That way, it will be slightly less of a headache.

Just because I had one years ago doesn't mean I'm completely clueless. Money isn't the issue either. If I could find one that's not complete crap then I'd be willing to spend the money.

There are plenty on here that are quite nice.

Wasn't implying you were completely clueless, just trying to give some friendly advise.

Sam's right though. As clue-filled as you may be, there are parts supply issues that did not exist in 2000 and the number of cars that are available versus the number of cars that are any good is way outa whack. As you know, these are great engines...
...a lot of them are pulling around chassis that should have been crushed years ago.

My recommendation will be the same as Sam's. Buy from a forum member...but for other reasons. You live in New Hampshire? Good luck with the local selection. I would watch the classifieds here on the forum and look for a SHO from a dry state. Not only will you be able to communicate with the owner, you'll kinda be able to know them...at least through the forum. You might even be able to get quality leads on transportation of your new old SHO.

And you have NESHO not too far from you. Kirk has every part imagineable. He also can transport your car if you find one a good distance away (implying what Tom meant in the previous post about transportation leads).

Some of the vital engine/drivetrain parts that are obsolete or may becoming obsolete (totally--not just from the dealer): main bearings, possibly rod bearings soon although they are currently available, MTXs and associated internals, and probably a few more I forgot to mention.

Your standard Taurus parts, interior, exterior trim, etc. are still not too difficult to come by; although as time goes on, finding Gen I's in the j/y is becoming a rare deal.

what he said.... I thought I was getting a deal on mine when I got it for less than a grand. considering what I'm doing to it to get it running I could have waited for a nice once and not had this headache.
