I went at looked at a Gen III 97 Toreador Red with tan leather today. It has 54k on it and they are asking 10,800 for it. I figure I could get here for about 10K. The interior is immaculate. The dark tan seats a flawless, the original floor mats are in and they look brand new, and the engine is super clean. It has brand new Pirelli's on the front, and the oem RSA's in back, it has the high chrome rims and they are perfect. It is awesome thumbs_u . I took it for a drive and man did I like it. It will be the slightly modded SHO strickly for family use and babying by me.
The only prob is is that I just bought a car 7 months ago so I am going to get ass rammed on my trade. NOw I will be upside down in both my SHO's, oh well. I will have about 2000k bucks coming to me in a week and another 1000-1500 once tax returns get here. That should help a little. I am sending my wife to look at it tomorrow. And we may have it by the weekend :D

Is it worth it, I don't know, but I know I am crazy about these cars!! (or is it stupid)

You may want to check out www.kbb.com That's the Kelly Blue Book. It'll ask all the questions and tell you want they should be asking for it and so forth. I paid $10,200 for my 98 with only a few thousand more miles on it. So if you ask me $10,800 is a little high. But I may be a cheap fart too. I would definatly(sp?) try to talk them down to $10K at least. On the other hand, 2 SHO's are better than 1 !!!

Have Fun!

Or you could buy my silver '97 with 60K for less than $9K. :)

In any case, good luck. Sounds like a nice car. thumbs_u

I just bought a Black 1998 with 23K for $13,200 or $15,000 out the door (tax, license, etc). This one had no scratches, door dings, original tires, perfect interior, looks brand new. I could not find one in the same condition for the price in California. Now I have a '91 Bruiser and a '98 Cruiser.

Mike,
Like Hochness said you should negotiate it down to $10,250 or less. But you can buy it at $10,800 with WARRANTY until 100k. Making sure that they cover the camshaft and tranny. On these SHO, I think if the car is less than 75k they're not still broken in others have said 100k.

Jedhead,
98 Black w/ 23k at $13,200 is not bad but you could've negotiate more. I bought my 98 Silver Frost in 11/2000 w/ 20,530 miles w/ Ford ESP 7yrs/75k at $15k. Did you get an extended service plan?

UPDATE:

Well, I decided not to do it guys, They weren't gonna budge off of 10,000k, they said that that was only $100-200 above their bottom line  I was driving a hard deal with them. They told me to check out KBB for my trade value for my Mazda and they said they are traditionally at the trade value in fair condition. Which meant my trade was only 6300.
So what I did was check the trade value for a 97 SHO with 54k in fair cond. It was only 7300. So I basically told them unless I left paying 10K out the door, or 10800 out the door with war. they weren't gonna have a deal. (this was via the telephone) Guess what, I didn't get a call back.
It is better than going in and making a 3000 dollar mistake. Now I will just use my extra cash for something else. Vacation, SHO convention, an older SHO!!
We will see, thanks for all the replies, I would love to have another, but then again, I am not willing to grab ankles either.

Later, Mike

Probably for the best man, What "stealership" was it at? If your looking for an older one to play around with Drive up 10 towards Elk River, Star Auto had a Blue Gen2 and the RV place on the right after the Weighstation had a white one also Gen2. Lots of them floating around if you have credit unlike me wink I keep an eye out though in case someone is looking.

Tim M.
PS I'll take a day off after I get it up here and you can take my 5spd out for a drive see if you like it. wink

My credit is great, I had a beacon score of 729 when I bought my car in Oct. So I may have to check it out. I wonder if it is the same one that wuzzzer is refering to. I may find a Gen II to play around with. Who knows

The SHO I was looking at wasn't in Elk River, Mike. It's nearby St. Cloud. Honestly I can't even remember the name of the town right now! One of the smaller towns by the lakes west of here.

***I have a '97 for sale. It has 73,000 miles. $10k and its yours.***

BBahahhahahahaha - $$10k?!? Good luck with that many miles! THe 98's are going for 11 thousand around here w/ 36k miles! I have said it before - its price elasticity. There is no demand for these SHO's unless you give them away for normal taurus prices. People don't understand no matter how much you try to explain it. shoot squint

Funny thing though . . . I was looking at the SHO's for sale in the back of the latest SHO Club magazine, and noted that a majority of the 96 and up SHO's were going for $9K or more. I think I saw a '99 for almost $18K too. Seems like everyone is asking alot of money for these cars. My '96 is only worth about $5K from the books, but mostly due to high mileage. The prices some folks are asking for these cars seems outlandish. The wife said that if she could get between $7K-$8K, I'd be driving a BMW for my birthday wink

LastSHO, I may just have to do that. I have been seriously contemplating that idea for the last week.
I am happy about not going and buying the other SHO at this point. It would just be another car to put more money into. I am so upside down in my SHO as it is, I might as well put the money into it. Besides, my wife does love her Mazda 626 ES V6. And it is a sporty v6 with a 5spd.
So the search continues, hay, I have seen quite a few gen I sho's and SHO plus's in the surrouding states, maybe I'll get one of those. eek! /

Laugh all you want.. over here in MA the prices are insane. Dealers are still asking $12,000-$13,000 for cars exactly like mine.
