Absolutely, no other mod should come first as far as power mods. Stock Y-pipe is an exercise in restriction. Then just add 2-3 stickers or a racing stripe till you get 30hp.*

After that, rod shifter if you've got cable. Won't add power but you'll like it anyway.

*That part was a joke.

From what I know, quickest and easiest path for that 30hp would namely the y-pipe and some SHOnut cams. That would put you right close to 30 hp 100% stock.

Y-pipes go for $250-$400 depending where you look, cam for SHOSource are $700 plus a deposit and I think you need adjustable sprockets for them as well...
Not sure there.

I wouldn't go with cams either. For power mods, my order of preference is:

Y-pipe
3.2 swap
Cat-back
UDP
Lightweight flywheel
Tweecer
Turbo/Supercharger

You don't ever need cams unless you're going all out for power, or want bragging rights. Plenty of high HP SHOs with stock cams. Nothing really needs to be messed with in the intake, again, until you're getting way up there in mods, or want bragging rights. Y-pipe is a must, and 3.2 swap is a no brainer. While a UDP and flywheel don't actually add power, they reduce inertia, and the real world effect is that you have more power available.

I just put my Catless Y-pipe on my car and holy cow what a difference.

I would Highly recommend the Y-pipe just to start with.

High flow Y-Pipe good for 7-8 hp at the wheels, over stock pipe, dyno proof with 20 members here 5 years ago on my car.
No mention of bigger maf surprises me. I did 196 atw with y pipe, 73 mm and superchip as only mods that day.

this ^ is almost exactly my list - except I don't like udp just because of the issues with the crank pulley / harmonic balancer that exist with nearly all of the udp kits that are out there - and he didn't mention putting 3.0 intake cams in the 3.2.

my 3.2 w/ 3.0 cams, high-flow Y-pipe and 8 lb flywheel should be at 250 hp.

I know this question gets asked ALOT and this response shows up in almost every one of them, but has the maintenance been done yet? This is absolute first mod for any SHO. It's stupid to try to go faster if after a short time it's not gonna go at all. Just sayin'...

Here's a different take on this subject...instead of dropping money on mods to the car, why not shed a few pounds and take a driving class at a racetrack?! Aren't there some standard ratios out there, like for every pound in unsprung weight you save, that translates to three pounds in sprung weight? And you'll actually gain hp by saving weight?

But seriously, if the end result is to have a faster car, try increasing the skills of the driver. Ran into this dilemma all the time when I had my motorcycles. Guys were always asking how to make the bike faster. Should they add a pipe, rejet/replace the carbs, carbon fiber body pieces, lightweight wheels, etc. I always told them to save their money and attend a track riding school.

:stupid: you can have the most powerful and best handling SHO on the planet and still get your ass whooped by a stock SHO if you don't know what you're doing.

IIRC, I remember something along the lines of 100lbs of weight or 1 lb in the drive train removed is equal to 1/10 time off the 1/4 mile pass.

Of course you can! When you hear a noise similar to your engine blowing up don't worry. That's just because you're now pushing so much HP that you broke the sound barrier. lmao

Fwiw my turbo car sat in a field for years before I got it and the motor I swapped into it sat for 7 years before being used . few oil changes and it's still kicking after alot of abuse. (knock on wood)

Not to say I haven't blown up a few motors, all n/a in my early days 4 spun bearings over 3 motors.
