I have been getting an intermittent missfire, down on power and have come to the conclusion I need a new DIS. Does ford still make these? They are not cheap so I'd like to buy a quality unit. Any thoughts on the aftermarket ones available? Thanks

Ford still has them at $320 a pop. It will have to be ordered in. They will not have it sitting on the dealer's shelf. You can get a aftermarket one from a parts store new anywhere from $130 to $200.

^What he said. Go to a junkyard and stock up. Ford used the same module on the supercharged 3.8 too, IIRC.

A poor ground connection can cause conditions similar to those that you mention. Check for the proper connection of the braided ground strap to the upper bolt on the passenger side rear intake bracket. Ensure both electrical connectors to the DIS are secure. A "wiggle test" of these connectors is a good check that they are not a source of a discontinuity. If you have a painted or powdercoated intake, you may need to clean to bare metal the ground connections at the DIS module and the bolt flanges that secure the balance (crossover) tube to the front and rear intake plenums. These checks are a first step and are much cheaper than a replacement DIS.

My intake is painted but have checked my grounds, I even put the ground on the intake crossover bolt. I cleaned up the plugs aswell.

These are the two codes I have:

411 (R) Idle speed system not controlling idle properly (generally idle too high) - ISC

216 (M) Primary circuit failure - ignition coil 2 - Ignition Systems

I'm down on power, my idle is not very smooth and can be high at times. Then randomly it will run on 4 cyliners. Rarely full power seems to come back.

Sounds just like my past DIS failures. I think you're on the right track.
