I am planning on coming-up before the Labor Day weekend and doing the Romeo Peach Festival & car show. As part of the trip, I also plan on getting a Quaife (or two) installed, courtesy of "the great one"....

(okay, okay, I know I'm piling it on thick here... :hpoop: )

My plan is to drive-up the week of the 27th, and watch Bizzy rebuild an MTX, pull the MTX currently in my '95, swap-in the newly rebuilt MTX and then rebuild the original tranny under her watchful eye. Plus it gives me an excuse to leave this 100+F weather . . . .

So, the reason for this verbose post, is that I am looking for a garage where I can do the tranny swap sometime the latter part of that week (27th-31st). Making the Labor day weekend will just be some icing on the cake . . . . :thumb:

Back in Michigan ... again.
Not sure if there are any enthusiasts in that area.

I'd offer my porta-garage, but I'm 45 minutes west of Detroit and the garage barely fits one car :bonk:

I would imagine I could talk my friend into it, but I'm quite a bit south. But then again, you drive a lot more than I do, and it probally seems like its just around the corner. :) Let me know. I'd actually like to watch a MTX rebuild myself.. :)

If you guys could pull it there and someone could bring Keith up here that would work out fine with me. Unfortunately that would be too far for me to take off to because it would be too many miles for Daniel.

Okay, posting from somewhere I shouldn't (still loading new harddrive I finally got . . . :mad:)

I am on the schedule for leave, so I unofficially-officially have the 25th through Sep 3rd off. I'm planning on passing through St. Louis to do an old cruise from high school days and hang-out with those guys Saturday evening/Sunday, on my way-up.

So where's this "peach" festival thingy ?

Bill / Bizzy - I'll be bugging you guys tonight/tomorrow. And I may have a clutch drop-shipped. My understanding is, that short of an aftermarket hypo clutch, that all the OEM/Aftermarket clutches are valeo units - right? I seem to recall a discussion of this AutoZone Duralast clutch being the same valeo kit as the Ford OEM unit. Anyone care to comment, or am I wasting my money here? Is there a better aftermarket setup, short of a Stage II or III clutch?

Beth - 100 on second test (two weeks ago). Oh, and the new [no-motion] sim will still make your stomach :vomit: "queezy"

The peach festival is in Romeo which is between where Bill and I live about half way except it's a bit north.

The stock unit is Valio, however IIRC Autozone and the like carry refurbed units which tend (in at least 2-3 cases that I know of) to self destruct. The ones that self destructed were resurfaced units. Maybe a fluke, but it was enough for me to stay away from them. It it were me I'd try and find a new unit. As for other aftermarket units, there are pros and cons to them all & nightmares about a few. Worth the money? Not in my opinion unless you plan to build a beast. A stock car has no need for anything other than a stock style clutch. Naturally IMO. :)

Keith, if you call me tonight, try around 10pm or shortly after. I've got a full schedule this afternoon and early evening.

If you need a OEM clutch kit, Eric (Howdy_Doody) Works for A place local, and I believe he can get them for $200. He can have one for you to pick up if need be when you are here.

I need to read a few threads to research this. What aftermarkets would you avoid, right-off-the-bat? While I currently have no plans :rolleyes: . . . .

. . . . plans do change. So, just so long as it will handle some light, errr., "occasional" moderate abuse . . . :burnout:

Ah, someone fell asleep last night, very shortly after work and then woke-up at 12AM their time . . . . (looks for sleepy-eyed emicon)

Well Eric, here's your golden opportunity ! :thumb:

I'd think we could rebuild three trannys in two days, possibly less if I don't slow the Biz down tooooooo much . . . .

Now, we just need a little 30+mpg Ranger to haul in, . . . :burnout:

I believe the plan as of now is for Keith & Beth to be at my house morn of the 28. They rebuild a tranny as I remove his that will also be rebuilt as I install the first one.

There is one day that I will be detained from attendance anywhere, that being Wednesday the 29th. I have a date in court that day which I just found out about today.

I only burn those favors, when absolutely necessary. I learned that lesson some years ago, when during the Christmas break I snapped a halfshaft north of Evansville IN. At the time there were no prior indications of a CV joint problem, and it just stoppped pulling while I was flying down U.S. 41 near Fort Branch. All outward appearances were that the tranny had let go.

I got the car towed to the local Ford dealer in Evansville, had the wrecker driver take me to the airport where I rented a car, and hit the road again before the dealer opened the following morning (it was Sunday afternoon). Troy had a new automatic there late-Monday morning, only for the dealership to discover it was only a halfshaft when they paced it on the rack to begin pulling the traqnny (I was back in MS by that time). So, needless to say, he wasn't too happy. Some times shit happens.

The plan was (and still is as originally posted above) to:

  1. drive-up the week of the 27th and watch Bizzy rebuild an MTX that I am buying from her;

  2. [then] pull the MTX currently in my '95 and immediately swap-in the newly rebuilt MTX;

  3. [then] rebuild the original tranny under her watchful eye.

So how is that different than what I posted?
unless your going to Beths first & rebuild her tranny there, while your car just sits. Its up to you, its just time. When do you plan on arriving in MI?

Keith, did you get it out yet? Was wondering about the y-pipe thing. BTW, your catalog will be here this week, so I'll send you a PM when I get it.
