I'm looking at a 99 SHO with 210K miles and it needs some work, body and interior are squared away for my liking but here is what they say is wrong. Can you guys give me a heads up as to what I'm getting myself into?

Exhaust leak at flex pipe
Valve cover gaskets are leaking oil
Check engine light on - intake runner valve (can't remember the code)

The exhaust leak isn't a concern of mine as I will throw mods onto it, but I'm pondering if I should buy it and then pull the motor for an entire rebuild.

What say you? It's cheap enough to where rebuilding the motor wouldn't be an issue.

First thing need to check or ask if the cam's have been welded. IMRC isn't a major issue. How does the trans shift, any other trans issues. How much are they asking for it.

they're only asking 1400 for it, which makes me ponder what is actually going on. The owner said it runs rough, obviously could be due to the issues he mentioned, he said trans shifts fine, however he hasn't driven it in awhile, he didnt clarify "awhile." I have some big plans for this car once I get it. I've wanted a 99 SHO for awhile now but all the ones I've come across have had bad bodies or interior. I'd prefer to pay for mechanical issues than interior or body work. So this one is perfect in those regards. Just would like to see if I could make it a decent daily with 200K while I source parts to build a motor for it.

With 210,000 miles i would expect the cams to be welded. If not that might be a guiness world record. Keep us posted!!

The motor is probably OK. Concentrate on the transmission, make sure it is doing everything properly. That is where most of the issues are (besides the cam thing). If something has to be rebuilt, it will probably be the transmission.
Lots of tips on here on how to get more life out of it (bigger lines to keep it cooler, etc).
