Well...I just recently looked at a 92' Sho, green w/ black full leather. The car has 127k on it and it has had the full 60k tune-up as well as most of the stuff that needed to be done when hitting 120k! When the guy first started it up there was a clankin' kinda noise coming from the engine, like towards the top near the plugz n such. It went away after a while and the guy who owns it doesnt know what it is. Also the car when turning it makes kind of like a scraping noise but i think that has something to do with the bearings or something? There was also like a low sound level whistle sound coming from the 5 speed??? There is also a slow leak on radiator. Other than that interior good, exterior good. He wants 3750?? I say i would offer around 3100... Please help me for what i should do or when i go look at it again what should i check for? thanks

Don't take this the wrong way, but...

If you don't know how to diagnose these problems yourself, RUN AWAY from that car!

You would be greatly overpaying for a car with needed repairs that sould cost more than the car if you take it to a shop.

Heck, even if the car were in perfect condition with no apparent problems, that would be a steep price....

Food for thought: I saw a white '92 on e-bay with some minor front-end damage (Looked like headlights and bumper) for $500 with only a day or two left for the auction. Said it ran a drove "good". Of course everyone's opion of "good" are different.

i believe i know which one you are speaking of. if it is the same one, its been on Ebay for several months now....leads me to believe there is something fatally wrong with it.

Haha, nice one!

I'd stay away from the car for that price. IMHO, based on what you said, that car is probably worth 2500. I'd keep looking. There are plenty out there :) , and when you find the right one you'll know it.

Agreed. A car making a "clankin' kinda noise" is one to stay away from. Sounds like the seller is trying to unload it before the motor blows. If you need any help SHO shopping, let me know. I love helping other people spend money. :D

clanking: probably a cam chain tensioner
scraping noise: strut bearings. It needs the spacer installed
motor movement: subframe bushings

100-150 for the cam chain (tensioner and chain) + labor

probably $20 for the spacers plus labor (figure 75/strut usually)

subframe bushings can range from $60 for 4 to $125 for four. Labor would be about an hour.

Depending on the movement of the engine it could need motor mounts in addition to or instead of subframe bushings. You can get reinforced ones fairly cheap but installing them can be a PITA.

Is that you're not going to get any other car than an SHO, or you're not going to get any other car other than the specific clankin' one you described?

WhatTimeisit?:
I just want a sho. Pref. a gen. II. Anywhere in washington state! Someone please help!
It shouldn't be too difficult finding a nice SHO up here in the Northwest. In fact, there's even a SHO club based out of Portland called NWSHOC. We have meetings as far north as Centralia on a regular basis.

You might consider joining now, as there's always someone on there listing a SHO for sale, or mentioning one they have seen for sale somewhere.

Club info can be found here.

You'll have to give request permission to join from the admins, but it isn't too big of a deal, and mainly used to keep the club membership local to the Pacific Northwest.

If you find a decent SHO, I'm sure there's even a club member that would be happy to check it out for you!

Good luck in your search!
