I purchased a 2015 SHO in May. Put LMS 93 3 bar performance tune and 160 Tstat. I have 22k miles on it now. How many miles do people get out of these cars? Like 80,000-150,000. Or more?

Just rolled 90k on my '13. Got it with 37k Jan last year. Installed LMS stage 1 this past Jan. Car still runs like a dream, I'm in love. Already setting aside an "engine reserve" for replacing the motor with an LMS block when time comes. Hopefully not for a good long time. I use this as my DD and almost all miles are highway.

2014 just hit 175,000 this week still going strong and holding its own when needed and messing around.
Yes I would say my miles are about 50/50 to be fair and honest with highway and city driving.

Have another one at home with 8k waiting its turn when this one I will retire at 200k.

Yea I typically do about 100k per year and this SHO is number 3 for me so far and the fourth is sitting in the garage waiting her turn when the 14 gets donated lol.
I have to say I swear by these cars as I have had many Taurus both SHO and non as well. Not one of them ever let me down in anyway. Just the typical repairs of course.

Did you have to do anything with your PTU?

Are you tuned? If so, for how many miles? Any drivetrain work/maintenance (ptu/rdu)? I do about 35k/year and I just hit 73k this week. 93 octane unleashed tune since 50k.

Bumping this thread as I am in a similar situation as to deciding to keep SHO or not. I have test drove everthing (BMW 7 series, 5 series M, Range Rover, etc..), and nothing has everything my SHO has (remote start is a MUST for me).

I turned 67,000 miles and I havent had any major issues other than recently the rear door lock 'modulator' needed replacing ($300!!) and now my back-up camera isn't functioning (i took advice of fellow poster and ordered a $50 camera for DIY rather than give the dealer $600+).

Yesterday, a dealer ran the numbers (2013 SHO, 67,000 m) and said they are going for about 13k on a trade since they would just whole sale it. I just couldnt rationalize it. Spend $50k on a new car when I just cant find anything wrong with my SHO. Other than any reasno to anticipate any major issues over the next 40,000 - 60,000 miles?? I drive it easy and its garage kept.

Thoughts?

Sounds like you should be able to get 150k out of it without any major issues. Sure, things will need attention as it ages but I had a 740i and it was far from low maintenance. Even when only a couple years old. If it has been a reliable car up to this point the risk of a major failure is low.

I will pass 150K within the next week. Been tuned about 40K miles now, so far my only repair is a blend door actuator at a cost of 20 bucks. Most of my miles are on the freeway, I take a 5 mile longer drive each way just to avoid bumper to bumper traffic. I've seen quite a few for sale with 170K-190K miles, so as long as you are ok with throwing the occasional grand or two in repair bills at it as the PTU and turbos die, I'd say it's a pretty reliable car. I've had a rainy day repair fund for it since the day I bought it, and every month I put more into it. I'm hoping it lasts me til next spring and hopefully by then I will be able to pay cash for my next one. Regular maintenance is key!

The more I learn about these cars the more I would be surprised if one can get 150k miles out of mixed driving w/out replacing at least a turbo. If it's mostly highway, I can see getting that far w/out issues. But with a good mix of city, I don't see that many miles on the turbos. Since it's usually the rear turbo that fails, count on $1500+ to have it replaced. I'll be honest, that's a HUGE expense for a vehicle. My Jeep is running 210k miles and I've never had more than a couple hundred at a time. To think that most of these cars won't get to 150k miles w/out having to drop a couple grand occasionally [on a single repair] says something to me.

I realize it's all anecdotal, but I will never own another Jeep. I bought my daughter a 2004 Grand Cherokee back in 2008 with 40k miles and it was nothing but trouble. Wiring from the factory was a joke. I had to splice in additional wiring in the driver's side harness as it was too short and broke. The main harness that ran under the transmission didn't have any loom on it and knocked out the entire inside lighting.

This SHO hasn't been exactly trouble free, either. It recently spent 3 weeks in the shop for sensor issues. I was fortunate that the dealer only charged me a fraction of what it ended up costing to fix.

I don't have a whole lot of confidence in "modern" cars being more reliable. Just like in the old days, if you can find one built between Tuesday and Thursday, it will probably be a better car.

I spent over $1000 to get the blend doors fixed on my 2001 Grand Cherokee at ~100k miles. Also replaced the Torque Converter at 95K for $900, but I had an independent shop do that. Dealer would have charged $1500 I bet. Don't even ask what a 2001 740i costs to maintain. I got rid of that right after the warranty expired. But yes, the turbos may need replacing b4 150k. So might the PTU depending on your driving habits.

Have to agree on the Jeep. Nothing but trouble. But they do look nice.

I agree, I own my Jeep and would never own another one in my life. Seriously, it has 210k miles and I've owned it since 60k miles. I change the oil ever 4k-5k miles and I've only ever gone 4 oil changes without having to fix something non-maintenance. That alone says something about how reliable the Jeep is so it should add some emphasis when I say the SHO isn't that cheap of a vehicle to own. I do all my work/maintenance and I've never spent over $200 on a fix for my Jeep and most of them are under $50 in parts. I replaced my rear turbo on my SHO at 70k miles and that cost me almost $1k in parts alone. So when it's common to need to replace turbos and the PTU (both expensive for parts and labor) before 150k miles that's where I make that statement.

What I'm saying is that I think my comment was interpreted wrong. I didn't say my Jeep was maintenance free, I said it was never an expensive fix. In everything I've learned about the SHO is that repairs aren't that uncommon and they are expensive. Like someone said, as long as you're willing to throw a grand or two at it occasionally you'll be fine. I've owned my Jeep that always has something breaking and I've probably spent a total of $2k over 8 years and that's my point. I didn't even bring up the BMW because I have a bunch of buddies and their maintenance is about as bad as the Jeep but the parts cost 4x as much because of the great German engineering.
