Like I have a 2nd Overdrive Gear

So my tranny's been messin' up latley. Now it's actin' like it has a 2nd overdrive gear between 3rd and overdrive... I'll accelerate to 60 and it'll be runnin' 2.5K in 4th (overdrive) and then a couple seconds later it'll softly shift into what seems like another gear and drops it to 2K RPMs.... What could be cauin' this to happen? It lunges when I come to a stop sometimes too... It's really a day to day thing. One day the car will act fine and then next it'll lunge every time I come to a stop and shift at weird times. frown

The "second overdrive" is your torque converter locking up, and it's normal.

I'm not sure about your lurching problem, but it doesn't sound good. Start stuffing money into the tranny rebuiild fund!

Seriously though, take it to a shop that specializes in automatic trannys. They can often diagnose the problem to see if you need a rebuild, or just a solenoid pack or something.

that sounds like your torque converter is either on its way out, or the TC clutch isn't worknig properly. The later can be controlled by the VSS.

Take it to a shop and see what they say.
