I have a 93 ATX with 162k miles on her. We got a starter about six months ago. Recently, the car just stopped turning at all. The starter was the problem. I would like to know what is the average life of a starter.

My remanufactured unit came with a lifetime warranty. I hope it lasts as long as the original: 256,000 miles.

Does the oil really ruin the starter? I have never protected the starter in 125k and so far so good. knockin on wood right now.

What actually does **** the starter? Is it purely the number of starts? Or is there more to it than that?

Mine only lasted for 53K miles! I had to wait until the starter cooled down to start the vehicle. It would never start when it was hot. Thank goodness it was winter :)

Mine just went a while ago, 114k miles I believe. I bought a refurbished one at Autozone for about $40. 1 year warranty too.
