Scott was a big proponent of using the leaf blower test to determine if there was a plug up in the exhaust so I gave it a shot. Before my results/question a little backstory...

When I first got the car it was a dog. Cats were shot and I couldnt even redline it was so plugged. Anyway, I replaced the y-pipe with a set from shoshop and the resonator and muffler with dynomax. The stock pipe that i replaced (first one back from the cats) had a plug in it from the cats blocking 90% of the airflow... :eek: Needless to say the car felt much faster afterwards. The two pipes between the resonator and the mufflers are still stock.

Every since then, I've still felt that something was not quite right. Even after replacing plugs, MAF, wires, etc. third gear doesnt feel like everyone says it should. I've suspected a lingering exhaust clog but left it alone.

Well today I hooked up the leaf blower and here's what I found: I couldnt detect much of a change of pitch when hooked up to either muffler, but I did notice quite a bit of air blowing back out of the muffler if I backed the leaf blower tip out just enough to allow a crack. In addition, I would say that about 50% or less of the force of the wind of the leaf blower was making it through to escape through the resonator ******. It was still a considerable breeze but not at all what the leaf blower was blowing into the muffler. Could this be due to inherent muffler backpressure or do I have a clog? Is there any other way to tell if I have a clog short of cutting up pipes and what is the easiest way to remedy a clog short of replacing pipes (keep in mind that the blower is not blowing anything out of the pipes nor will it even if something is caught up in there). Thanks for your help.

So I was driving along and I felt a *bump* in the road. Luckily I have progressive rate springs so the bump didnt do much to the car but it will help here.

An easy check would be to disconnect your exhaust after you Y-pipe. Wire the pipe up so you do not break it off if you hit a *bump* and see if the car runs any differently. If there is a drastic change, then you may have a restriction somewhere. Hope this helps.
