I'm ready to redo my front suspension this weekend. Thanks for all the great info in all the other posts.

For a final question, I want to make sure I have all the parts needed for the strut/coil assy. I thought I did, and then I looked in the Chilton manual. It has an exploded view of the entire assembly.

Basically, it's shock, bumper, bellow, insulator (found out you don't need it though!) then the coil, and (here's my confusion) it shows a bearing seal. Well, I ordered the mount and bearing kit from Advance, but it's just a metal plate, a few washers and nuts, and the bearing.

At this point I'll just reuse what I have, but is there really a big piece of rubber under the metal mount that the coil pushes up on?

I don't like surprises.

Matt, TIA

The bumper and bellows should be reuseable, if they are in decent shape.

I cannot remember any rubber pad between the coil and the mount.

My struts came with new bellows and bumpers.

Now I'm disgruntled though. I just went out and stuck my hand up past the well cover (so I really couldn't see what I was touching), but I definitely felt rubber.

Now what?

Ok, looking at the exploded view:

The top thing is just the body, I assume, and it has no arrow pointing to it.

The second thing is the mount, and it has an arrow.

The third is the bearing, labeled, with an arrow.

What the heck is that fourth thing from the top???

And I won't say which struts I got, because everyone will rank on me for it. But I was given a price I couldn't refuse.

Please help,

Matt

Oh, now I wish I went w/ Monroe struts.

But again, I got a good price.

Are those things the bearing seals?

A friend at Lincoln/Mercury dropped me a note letting me know that some guy ordered all four struts and all four coils for a 94 SHO. That was two years ago.

The catch was that he had already paid for them, but never picked them up.

He told me that they were never inventoried because the cash had already been recieved.

$150 later I have all 8 pieces in my trunk.

How do you turn that down?

Now, what is the fourth part from the top for the front suspension in that exploded view?

BTW, I'm having a great time with this thread.

Ok all: update.

It's 11pm and I finally got the strut tower apart. Compressed the spring and apart she came.

Now to the point of this thread. The spring pushes up against a steel plate, surrounded by rubber, in which the bearing is inserted into. What is that steel plate called and where do I get it? Do I need to replace it? It's rusty and dirty and the rubber is a little cracked, but not too bad.

Best course of action?

Thanks for looking,
Matt
