How often do these fail? Being where it is, I was considering buying one just because of where it is. Dosent really look like something that could wear out, but maybe I'm wrong.

They rarely wear out simply because there are no moving parts and nothing to wear on the sensor. Knock sensors are usually piezo crystals that generate a very small current when they are "agitated." They can be replaced with the proper tools with the intake off, but they can be accessed more easily with the fuel rails out for a fuel injector seal replacement.

Well, I havent put these heads on my shiny new short block yet, and I noticed it didnt look very mechanical, thats why i was asking. But yea, its easy as it is now to put it in.. I think it was a 28 mm, maybe 30, but came out, and went in no sweat. Just wondered if I should replace it being where it is. The other sensors, dont look hard to change, and I dont recall them ever having a fault. Been too long since i drove it.. :) Hard to remember all its little quirks now.. :)
