Zach Leahy, one of the guys on the SHOTimes mailing list has starting making aluminum, fully adjustable rear tubular control arms. I have a set myself and they are beautiful pieces that are VERY well made. Zach has been running his set for a while, so they are a bit dirty. Mine are polished and I'm going to clear coat them before installation, so they'll stay nice. I've got the car in storage now, so they won't go on until Spring. They SHO Shop sells a set that isn't anything especially pretty for $400. Zach wants $275 a set. You can see them at:

Is he making them or taking them off the GTPs?

The rearward GTP arms (or 97-99 Grand Prix arms) are a bolt on for Gen II SHOs. They require a half inch of machining for Gen I applications. The rearward arms are the ones with the adjuster sleeves, so they are what you want.

I was quoted $80 for four arms, shipped, from a boneyard recently.

However, those arms look GOOD. Kurt, you should mention to him he's going to have problems with the brake bias disconnected like that. The pins for the bias box should be wired somehow to keep them from restricting the fluid flow.

the ones off of the GTP aren't aluminum. Tubular steel I think.

Those are sweet! At the Convention I know he mentioned building some. As soon as my holiday bonus gets here I will be ordering a pair, unless a better deal is out there (hint hint)

They are very nice. We talked about them quite a bit yesterday over on the shotimes List. Remember that spherical rod ends can be very harsh and noisy on the street and you should also reinforce the H-box when running tubular rear trailing arms, especially when they have spherical rod ends.

Righteous!

I've been contemplating working with a friend here in Cincy to come up with an alternative to the $400 SS struts. I can't see how they can be that expensive!

Now, $275 is a little more like it. I was hoping for $200, but I'd be willing to save my time and energy and fork over the other $75!

So,

(1) How would someone order these awesome tubes?

(2) Anybody know just how the SS reinforced H-brace is reinforced? Could I just weld on some "angle iron" to get the same effect?

Thanks,

Steve C. (SHO Mojo since 1989)
