Keys don't open doors

Well, i have 2 keys for my 92 SHO (3 actually).

Both the blank Ford key and triangle start the car and the oval opens the trunk. But, neither the triangle or blank ford key open the door. Why? I can't lock the car, and this is bad. So help would be nice

I don't know, mabey? I do know the black ring, with the wings (i hope you know what i'm taking about) on the ignition is broken off.

Ah it kind of sounds like it was replaced. Thats the part with the wings. Your best bet is maybe to get a new one or a used one then go see a lock smith so he can set your door locks to work with that key.

Think i can get a locksmith or a stealership to make me a key just for the doors? i don't mind having another key on the ring.

Whoa! the tumbler kits come with two keys. when the new tumbler is installed; the dealership takes your old key and cuts a portion off of the new key, so that it works in your doors. the new tumbler key has half of the teeth cut in it from factory, the remaining blank teeth are to be pattern cut off the old keys. i forget if its the first or last half of the teeth. you end up throwing away the old keys. the tricky part is dealing with the anti-personnel mine in the steeringwheel. its just too dangerous; pay someone to deal with it.

i would hate to think someone took the tumber out of another vehicle.

the ignition key sure doesnt look like any key i've seen for a SHO, i thought they all had square plastic bits...

oh well

odd story: one time i took the keys for my dads 93 on accident when i went out with my car, the ignition key started it, but when i went back to my car later, turns out it wouldnt unlock the door. d'oh.

You have 10 cuts on your key. Cuts 1 through 6 are for your ignition. Cuts 5 through 10 are for your doors. So, Cuts 5 and 6 are the common cuts and must match between doors and ignition. You are at a disadvantage here. Typically the ignition cylinder goes bad and you can go to the stealership and buy a replacement and they will take your old key and make cuts 5-10 so you can use the key on your doors. Well, you don't have any door keys? Weird. You can have a locksmith reset the tumbler so your keys will work. To get a better understanding as to how keys work, check this out.

How much you think i'll cost (for the lock smith to reset the tumpler in the doors? I'm hopping less then $60. Any idea's?

Go to the dealership and ask what your options are. They may be able to look up some code somewhere. You can at least get some prices.

I'm not sure if a locksmith can or cannot reset the car door door locks. But you can ask. He may require you to bring them to him. Sounds like a PITA.

If you are going through the trouble of taking locks out and putting them back in, you might as well take a ride down to Passyunk Ave., visit Venice Auto Salvage and see if you can get a pair of door locks and get the ignition cylinder from the same car while you're at it. Those are the only locks that use the square key, so that's all you need. Make sure the key works on all three locks in case one of them is not original. I have never taken the door locks out, so I'm not sure how involved it is. I don't have my Chilton's manual with me. I think you may have access to it from the side of the door where the rubber plug is. Again talk to the dealership. One of the mechanics or the guys at the parts counter should be able to help you out.

The igition cylinder takes about 5 seconds to get out: Just turn the key to to IGN and push a small screwdriver up the little hole on the underside of the steering column. There is a pin that you have to push in which will release your cylinder. Just pull the cylinder out.

Car is a dealship right now.. heh, you know Pacifico Ford? Yea, my dad is the Sevice Manager there. His name is Bob Moyta. I was also heard i can turn the keyless entry system into a keyless remote system. THAT would solve the problem, but i'm unsure if i can do it. WAIT!! omg, what color is you SHO? every few days i see a sho running around. I'm in south philly. Like down by the stadiums and stuff, Round 15th and Shunk St.

I've been to Pacifico in Bryn Mawr. I usually go to Mathews Ford in Paoli. That SHO is probably not mine. Mine is white and I'm located in Malvern. I only go down around your neck to go to Tony Luke's, Primos, Pat's or Geno's.

Sounds like you have the inside track with the lock info. I would just get a set new or used. Pick up the keyless stuff. Just keep loading her up with the options she was shorted.

take some advice from some one else who doesn't have door lock keys, if you can get them fixed.
when I bought my car the guy who had it, had the car broken into and had the ingnition changed. but the dealer that fixed it never matched the door keys the problem was the dope then lost the door keys and just used the remote keyless entry. I have tried using the key codes to ID the key pattern I need but no dealer in Pittsburgh can figure it out.
either way the real problem comes when someday you leave a light on, or have a battery or alternator fail. then you are really in deep cause you have to get a locksmith to break into your car for you just so you can get a jump.
so if you have any way to get it fixed do it or do like me and buy a membership with AAA so you don't have to pay a locksmith.
I plan on eventually fixing mine ounce I have time to pull the locks.
