I just got home and I went to turn my car off. The key broke off in my ignition. Any ideas on how I can get it out. Am I going to need to take the whole thing apart? It is a 91 if that makes any difference.

this happened t omy mom once, my dad was able to get it out with a shaved down screwdriver, and a lot of finesse :read "cursing". best bet, call AAA/locksmith, you dont want to screw the ignition cylinder up

if the ignition still can turn with broken key turn it to the run position, through access hole on bottom of the colum, use a pick or small screwdriver to release lock in pin and pull out the tumbler assy.Just bought the tumbler two months ago for $18 at autozone.

This happened to me.. I was able to work it out with a pair of tweezers and a screwdriver. As Jillian said, it takes time and finess..

Best bet is locksmith if you cant get the key out, if you change the ignition then you are up to 3 keys for the car, locksmith can rekey the ignition. They can just extract the key also. Cheaper if you take it to them.
Or get a new AAA Plus membership, they will cover $100 for locksmith or tow up to 100miles

I have had this happen several times. For some reasong my ignition is stiff and takes a bit of pressure when going to the "start" position. I have always been able to pry it out with a paperclip and tweezers or somethign similar. I also always keep a couple extra keys on hand for when the next one breaks...

Why do you need a code for? Ford only has codes back to 1997. I work for a locksmith and I could decode it by looking at the peices of your key and make another.
A local lock shop should be able to do that for you.
