Hi guys,

I'm getting a cold air intake this month, so far it looks like I'll be going with either the K&N or Air Raid... I'm planning on doing a stage 3 tune in the future so I'm taking it step by step. I'm starting off with the CAI, then I will get the catback exhaust, then the down-pipes then tune.....what do you guys think? any other suggestions for a cold air intake?

Thanks.

Save yourself some money and just get a K&N drop in. The stock box is sealed and drawing air from an outside source. Also the stock box flows more CFM then the stock turbos need even at full tilt.

i got a brand new air aid intake on kijij for $250 CDN (awesome deal) off this guy who said he sold his SHO before he installed the intake. I got it installed yesterday and to be honest its not much louder at all.... the turbo spooling is just a tad bit louder

Having the Airaid intake or should I call it Livernois? Looks nice but sucks in under hood temps. Unless you're going to go all out and actually get the EPP intake feeding each turbo and allowing each turbo to flow more efficient and drop WGDC just go with the K&N drop in. Then one day upgrade to the EPP and actually get some real performance gain.

Is there an EPP vs Airaid dyno test available? I thought I saw some test in the FB SHO group that suggested no real improvement but I might have that wrong and can't find it now.

There was a 7-8hp gain on the top end. Forget where the dyno sheet was posted but it’s there. Plus a drop of 8% WGDC should tell you something about the restriction it frees up

Wastegate Duty Cycle - the amount that the solenoid has to work to keep the wastegates closed to hit a certain PSI target.

This helps the guys running E30 with the GH intercooler as they both require a bit more % to hit the target. Downpipes also lower that % by freeing up restriction on the exhaust side. You want the lowest WGDC % possible for a specific target.

I just checked the pricing with the powder coating it's close to $600 plus taxes plus shipping. Seems pretty expensive for 7 hp just for the top end unless your regularly tracking the car and need that top end

I realize that speed parts are expensive and this is a fun hobby but it does seem pretty expensive for the gains. If you're going for eye candy then it's probably worth it - it looks great.

I think it's worth it as it is part of a complete build. Just imagine starting from the intake the large filter and free flowing pipes to each turbo, brand new upgraded turbos, Hotpipes and upgraded IC. It's complete. And looks good. Plus injecting things pre turbo becomes hard to resist.
