I did some searching for the answer to my question, so I apologize if this has already been answered numerous times. I am looking to simply replace the stock air filter with a K&N filter. Do I order the one for the standard 2010 Taurus? I didn't see one specifically for an SHO. I just wanted to be sure before dropping the $50.

Thanks!

There is one...I got it at Advanced Auto Parts for like 40 bucks. They make one for the SHO.

whats the point of this swap?

typical air filters are made out of paper and are highly restrictive with airflow

you'll never have to buy a new filter again all you gotta do is wash it and oil it every so often (once or twice a year)

better gas mileage, more power etc...

i've used these air filters for years on my Honda, WRX, RX-8 and now the new SHO, even got my family to use these filters in their Audi's

the hour i left the dealership with the new car off the lot I went to my local performance parts shop and had them overnight the part for me. the car had 800km's on it when i installed the filter

K&N gave some old guy who had a Pick up and drove it daily for work and personal use he reached the 1,000,000 mile warranty claim and K&N gave him a brand new truck

this video i made should explain the cleaning process http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yrzuGZF8Emk

plus on a cool note the car will make a loud turbo spool/woosh noise with this filter

AND allows in more crude.
Only if he's driving in the Gulf of Mexico. We know what you meant...

Unknown_Driver, tell you what, instead of just parroting K&N advertising hype, how's about you buy some chassis dyno time and do some back-to-back testing of a brand new OEM paper filter and a K&N?

Kindly report back when you have some data.

No chassis dyno info, but one day when I was at Milan with Rick from Livernois, I gave him my K&N Filter because I had installed the Hennessey kit and he picked up I believe 2-3 mph. This is with just a filter swap. Maybe he'll chime in here because I cant remember if he ran quicker as well or just faster.

+1

I've been using K&N filters since 1973. Not for performance, but mainly for ease of maintenance. If you gain any HP, fine. Doesn't matter until higher rpm anyway.

They filter just fine. The old '89 with over 200K miles have had a K&N for at least 170K of that, and it is still a strong engine.

When I replaced my stock filter box that had a K & N filter installed for around 7K, I found the intake side filled with dead bugs. This may be exaggerated in my EB Flex because I modified the front of the car by having to remove the inner grille structure when I installed my Carriage Works Grille. But... suggest everyone check their filter more frequently than with other vehicles.

Once I knocked the bugs off by banging it on the drive, it looked relatively clean.

Have no idea if I gained any HP with K & N.... but the "kool stop sign sticker" you get with them is great for "Engine Compartment Fluff"! Can't say I heard any more intake noise, but that's likely because I have Magnaflows.... "Noise Fluff".

With my custom RFAI (Round Filter Air Induction), which I still prefer to refer to as CAI (Cool Air Induction), the biggest change is hearing the blow-off valve "chirp" frequently! "Birdie Fluff"!

And... My apology for "Fluffing about nothing".

Agree with Ted, will never go back to a oil filled crap K&N filter, paper is the only way to go there is reason why manufacturer's use it, it is true a K&N will flow better but it won't filter better than a paper filter, I'm using a napa 46637 so I have no problems with flow, its meant for F350's super duty.

Non-oiled Filter... Chose from Amsoil.. or AEM... or others....

Personally, have never had any issues with K & N... but did get oil on nylon K & N filter cover on my Denali.... (blowback?????) No issues on 2 G8's & GTO,.

Thanks for the feedback, all. I had been using K&N filters for years and they've never steered me wrong. If anything, my reasoning for using it is in-line with what RonPorter mentioned. Additional performance, while welcome, is not the reason I use 'em.

That is why I commented on the Direct Injection issues on the CTS with oiled filters.

However, I had the drop in for around 9K, including 3 long road trips with no codes whatsoever.

shomethe$$$ is that a typo on the model number?

NAPA said they have no such model filter when I checked. Thank you for the tips. I would think the CAI may help some but for my wifes Limited I'll try the NAPA paper. NAPA Gold 6935 $13.99 (manufactured by Wixs) is what NAPA recommended but if the one suggested is less restrictive I want to try that one.

To remain on topic I want to chime in by telling you all that the K&N in this thread has not come recommended for the SHO, not for turbo anyway, by the guys at AdvancedAuto.com (if they are to be reliable source) but as long as it is never over oiled it should be alright, so they say. I remember reading there may be some risk to clogging sensors but it could be an exclusive issue to certain cars/trucks. AdvAuto did not recommended it simply because if is thier belief that it will be of no performance benefit to a turbo.

shomethe$$$ is that a typo on the model number? Please, what was the correct NAPA filter numer? :swing:

The opinion of Advanced Auto idiots is worth what you paid for it. You listen to the opinion of guys that were flippping burgers last week?

K&N use has nothing to do with turbos.

I put the k&n on my car. No power increase could be felt, it just made the turbo a little louder at certain rpms. I clean mine every other oil change which is 6,000 miles. Clean, dry, light oil. I have used them in all my cars except for the neon srt-4 when the engineers found it to flow less than a clean oem paper filter. I see nothing wrong with using them. Turbo cars wont gain squat for power, but you dont need to replace it, and the turbos are a little louder if you are into that.
