As I understand it, the radio controls and HVAC controls on the EATC football share a common PC board. You couldn't just cut out one from the other without adverse effects, like it not working anymore.

I've had some thoughts about that....from the look of things you could probably take all the stereo stuff and just kinda lay it down around the EATC and add in an aftermarket deck. It's possible....just might look a little ******...but you'd have both.

It worked and everything, the radio that is. The heater worked too, On Max Temp and Defrost. It got very hot in my car that winter from the fan.

Doesn't anyone remember that I already tried that?

I'll just deal with mine the way it is... I'm not the kind that needs a huge booming system anyway with kids and stuff. Personally I think the chopped and put back together is not a great look. I guess it's one thing that you have to deal with is your drawn to the gen3's. I know some have put the CD player in the Ashtray spot but how inconvenient is that when it's so close to your gear shifter?

That's were I wanted it but Tim told me we couldnt put it there for some reason, I guess I could always move my changer from the trunk to under a seat of something if I wanted to get at it better.

I had a scanner and a CB radio mounted in the arm rest.

The rectangular shape in the center of the dash would never look right. Some have mounted the head units down where the ash tray is successfully. Here is would be less noticable and is locked in place with the shifter when in park.

Like this? Been there done that. It was functional but very difficult to do anything while driving. IE DANGEROUS!

In regards to the ashtray...

This is the best place, hands down. You retain the factory football, although the radio functions do not work. The lights do though. With the shifter in Anything past N you can add Cd's easy. I have the buttons memorized so I can adjust features, songs, volume, etc. on the fly. Especially easy since you can reach it with your hand resting on the shifter.

Also being so low in the dash, and in front of the shifter it's difficult to notice it's there.

Wouldn't a remote control solve that issue? Or are they ALL line of sight.

Line of sight, unless it's Infared. You can see my remote is in the cupholder in the picture with the radio in the console. Either way, your probably going to look down at the radio in the console to change songs, etc.

I got my rear defrost to kick on, otherwise nothing else ever worked after that one time. The cable got pulled out of the board :frown:

okay....I'm not anything near an electrical genius, but isn't it possible to solder some wiring onto that green plastic cable to extend it?

Neither am I. I thought something could be done with the wire to extend it. What, I'm not sure.

Screw all of that. JL Audio makes something they call the CleanSweep. Basically, you run your factory inputs into this unit, it levels out all the inputs, and outputs them, and uses a separate volume control. My friend, who owns a stereo shop, installs them on many cars with factory navigation systems, and I bet it'd work great in a Gen 3.

The box gets installed in a hidden location, and the only way you can tell it isn't stock is the fact that you have a small **** installed wherever you like to control radio volume. It's a thing of beauty.
