jumpy temp

so im cruising rt 23 at 2 in the morning and about to get to my girlfriends house. i go around a turn and out of the corner of my eye i see my temp gauge.... bouncing up and down. it points from the middle of the A in normal all the way down to the top of the C, and then back again. the car was running fine though. i pulled over and let it rest for alittle bit, then it was fine... any ideas?

Have you ever replaced the sending unit?

rapidly moving gauges point to electrical connections, bad or corroded.
Or may be a steam pocket in the cooling system.
